Attack on Titan is one of the best tv series you'll ever watch. Yes, it is a Japanese anime series, but before you turn your back on it and stop reading this thinking 'yeah, more Pokémon kiddie stuff' let me asure you that this is a very mature well made show. True, the premise at first glimpse sounds stupid (humans battling giants), but this is not a 'Jack The Giant Slayer' imitation. Based on a popular manga (comicbook) the plot revolves around future apocalypse where mankind is almost wiped out completely by the sudden appearance of a race of mindless humanoid giants who devour humans and animals. The remaining humans built city fortress with giant walls to keep the giants out. For a 100 years they have peace until one day appears a Colossal giant, ten times bigger than the other giants and whose head towers above the wall, makes a hole on the wall allowing the other giants to enter the city and devour most of its inhabitants. The people ran toward the next wall entrance which is also destroyed by another giant. The human territory is divided in three circles of walls with the capital and the king in the center. The main characters are three young friends who become soldiers trying to kill the giants and recover their lost cities. The show is sort of like Japan's answer to The Walking dead: instead of a world populated by zombies is giants. Even though the setting is in the future, the resources are so scarce that society resembles a pre-industrial revolution civilization. The only 'futuristic gizmo' is a device used by the soldiers in their belts that shoots four ropes with hooks that works like a slingshot and allows them to jump/fly very fast to battle or escape. Many characters that you root for gets eaten violently. No one is safe. No kiddie stuff. The show has become so popular that there are plans for a live action film. [IMG]
