BTW in PR Tito was received as a hero today, government officials, cars caravan, huge festivities, parades etc...meanwhile Cotto returned to the island almost incognito.

Tito was charismatic, and had a genuine love for his Rican fan base. Cotto has the personality of a wrench, and the perception is he only fights for himself. So, that's not surprising.

100% accurate. Cotto even requested that no fans should show up at the airport to receive him. But who was going to when Tito was getting all the attention?

Still doesn't change the fact that he'd have lost to Tito as well as Benitez.

Cotto hasn't accomplished more. It's simply easier to win belts in today's era than it EVER has been before.

    He has.

    Resume/titles/longevity all belong to Cotto.

Tito was more charismatic and fan friendly but that's it. Cotto is not the puncher Trinidad was, but he's not a bore in the ring. He lays it on the line. Even in losing Miguel has never looked as clueless and inept as Tito did against Wright and Hopkins.

Yup. That is why you see guys like Abner Mares, Jorge Arce, Humberto Soto and Fernando Montiel winning belts in three weight divisions and listed next to Benitez, Duran, Leonard, etc.

Tito never loses to Marg. Not even with Marg's loaded wraps. He never loses to Trout either.

Exactly. For Cotto to have been a 4 division champ in Benitez era, he woulda had to move up and beat Hagler. Nuff said.

Cotto has been a very GOOD fighter for a long period of time. Tito and ESPECIALLY Benitez were better over a shorter period of time. I value substance over longevity.

He looked pretty fuckin clueless and inept against Trout. And he was overwhelmed completely by Pac.

I get it though. This is Fightbeat. The forum where Tito is no better than Cintron.....

    Tito would have blasted Cotto.

Based on what? Trinidad's iron chin? If Margarito's hand's were plastered how do you know how well he would have absorbed the shots?

Who are these monsters Cotto could not have defeated that Tito did? Carr/Camacho/Campas/Thiam/Reid/Mayorga/Pineda?

Cotto also hasn't lost by shutout to anybody at any weight.

Also, if you wanna compare some opponents. A prime Cotto had his hands full with a washed up Mayorga. The same Mayorga that a rusty, past primed Tito easily doninated, and battered.

Past prime Mayorga was near on even terms with Shane Mosley that Cotto already beat clearly one fight before. That Mosley then went on to destroy Margarito.

Lol. This is unbelievable. Tito gets worse EVERY YEAR on this forum. 5-6 years ago if somebody posted a Tito-Marg thread it'd be laughed at. But because Tito apparently becomes shittier every year, the matchup is in question.

Tito fucks up ANY version of that cheating puta. Marg ain't walking through Tito's firepower the way he did Cotto's, and you know it.

Margarito was made in Heaven for Tito to look awesome against.

I think Danny Garcia is one good win away from people on this forum saying he woulda beaten Tito.

Where did I say Cotto would beat Trinidad? You jump from your own opinion, to forum opinion and then on to speculation in the mythical matchup forum. None of those things have anything to do with the points I've made.

Cotto has longevity over Tito. That's about it. His resume isn't as impressive if you consider he's lost in all his biggest fights, minus Saturday when he beat a cripple.

Tito's win over Vargas is more impressive than any of Cotto's career wins.

thinking that Cotto has no chance against tito is mental. Not sure I would make him the favorite (I probably wouldn't), but it would be far from a mismatch

Mismatch is a harsh term. A mismatch would be Tito vs Berto or something like that.

For the life of me though, I can't envision Cotto's chin handling Tito's power for 12 rounds. And I also can't forget Cotto's history of fading late.

For the record, El Radar would have schooled both of them, but Cotto gives Benitez a tougher fight than Tito would. Styles.

I never said Cotto would beat Vargas either did I? Do you see me hyping Cotto's win over Martinez? Clearly Martinez was compromised. Fact is Cotto took the fight, went in to another weight class, was the underdog and did his job.

    What were Tito's biggest fights?

    Vargas W
    De La Hoya W (lol)
    Hopkins L
    Wright L

In three of the four he looked absolutely inept as a boxer.

Again, when has Miguel Cotto looked so out of his depth that he appeared to be an amateur compared to his opponent?

we're pretty much on the same page, but I think that tito would get rocked a few times in the early rounds, and would probably hit the canvas.

Yes, Cotto likely drops him early. So we can agree completely.

To say Tito looked like an amateur against Hoya is an exaggeration. Golden Fag was out boxing him, but it wasn't some master class.

Hopkins dismantled Tito, but there's no shame in that. That night, B-Hop was one of the best fighters to ever live.

He looked lost against Wright, but he had clearly lost some snap and quickness by that point. It's very possible that Winky is always a nightmare for him, but Wink certainly didn't face Tito at the peak of his powers.
