We all know Atlas is obsessed with the concept of geography. Almost always, his analysis is the same. Basically, he'll scream all night if a taller fighter finds himself fighting inside...ever. There's multiple problems with his overly simplistic take. The biggest is his assumption that a fighter always has a choice as to where a fight takes place. More often than not, if a taller fighter is spending a lot of time inside to his disadvantage, it's not a tactical mistake. It's not by choice. Rather, it's often a tactical victory on the part of the shorter more aggressive fighter, who through various usual boxing techniques, is able to force the fight to be inside. Atlas seems utterly unable to grasp this. A taller fighter forced inside against his will could hold, but that takes energy and not always effective. Plus, it's objectionable to fans including Teddy and once in a while a ref will even do his job and not allow it. The other possibility is that a fighter, even a taller one, may have good reason to want to fight inside. As the taller guy, he still has good leverage inside if he knows what he's doing. He can even be less vulnerable inside depending on the opponent. These concepts are apparently out of Teddy ' s reach even though he's a paid tv analyst.
atlas has been very annoying lately during commentary. but he is decent at predicting outcomes of fights
"The TAWLUH Man's Gotta Use his Advantages. He's LOOONGUH, he's TAWLUH...He's Gotta Keep the SHORDUH Man on the Outside, with Dat Reach. The TAWLUH, LOOOONGUH Man has to Keep the SHORDUH Man from Getting Inside. He's Gotta Be like DeeeLa Hoya or HollyField" - Teddy Atlas REED:hammert:
I think the real motive behind his murder plot on Donny lalonde was his feeling that Lalonde didn't "fight tall" enough against Leonard.
Atlas is awful, he keeps on repeating the same shit over and over again. And whenever their's a famous person on the telecast, he'll try to make some stupid analogy between their profession and pro boxing
And we are joined at ringside by OJ Simpson. Teddy "Oj, thanks for joining us. Would you agree that this guy has to go for the kill? He sees blood, shouldn't he just run this guy over like a bronco? I think he needs to penetrate his defense like a knife. Do you agree OJ?"
At the end of the day, Teddy Atlas owes his entire career and name to the man he hates, Mike. Without Tyson, NOBODY ever hears or cares about Teddy. He should write Mike a thank you letter.
Do you think Atlas told Mike he needed to be on the inside and not on the outside? That sage wisdom could be why Tyson was so successful.
