I find this question interesting. Obviously, every world class fighter needs to have some type of knowledge of the fighter's in their weight classes. However, some fighter's simply view boxing as PURELY a job, and don't really follow it otherwise.

An example is Jermain Taylor. I remember hearing that Taylor isn't really a fan of boxing, and doesn't really follow boxing when he's not training.

On the other hand, you have a guy like Tyson, who's ALWAYS been a huge fan of following and observing the sport.

Ray Leonard is right there with Tyson. He loves to follow the sport, even though he's been retired for 18 years and no longer promotes.

    Give some examples of both.

He certainly took his dislike for the sport out on the fans.

Floyd Mayweather seems to take pride in not watching anyone else fight, but I think it's BS. Along the same lines of being his own boss and all.

From REED's Experience, MOST Fighters are NOT Fans of the Sport...From a HISTORICAL Perspective, REED has Yet to Be in a Room w/a Boxer(s) & NOT Know MORE about the Game...

It was SHOCKING to REED, Initially...

I love it when a pro and active fighter can talk details about the state of the game.

Mosley seems like a real fan. ODH I was never really convinced but the number of fights he sits through I have to give him the benefit of the doubt.

I'm guessing cotto is a real fan.

    Pacquiao? I'm guessing not.

It's weird isn't it? I used to be good friends with a pro fighter who didn't really follow boxing, or even like boxing much himself. He just saw it as a job.

I guess it's true for a lot of pros, it happens to be something they're good at it and they just treat it as a job like any other. Surprising though.

Good point, never given it much thought, but Pacquiao doesn't seem like a boxing fan. Never really talks about boxing or other fights.

1 of the More EXTREME Cases of This was Michael Spinks, who LOATHED Boxing...

Spink was a Passive, Soft Spoken Dude OUTSIDE of Boxing, but was Obviously GOOD @ It...He DIDN'T Like Hurting People & Openly Admitted to Being FEARFUL Before just about Every Fight...

After Winning a GOLDfuckingMEDAL @ the '76 Games, Spinks QUIT Boxing Altogether and Worked a Factory Job for More than a Year...

If you follow Lummox Lewis on fb or twitter, you'll see that he still follows the sport as a hardcore fan. He'll even post statuses asking people's opinions after each fight is over, and ask people's predictions before hand.

So we got Tyson, Leonard, and Lewis as 3 hall of famers that still follow the sport.

    Who else?

Funny. I would've guessed Lewis is not a fan. He was always at a loss for words when asked for his opinion on a fight he wasn't involved in. The twitter could be him helping out a manager or promoter, though it's certainly possible he follows the sport.

I'm guessing Hopkins is a real fan. Bradley I'm thinking. Porter.

I'll take a wild guess and venture to say that Hamed wasn't the biggest fan of the sport.

I get the feeling that Kelly Pavlik didn't like boxing much either.

I seem to remember hearing that YOUR BOY, the late Vernon Forrest, wasn't much of a boxing fan.

The Baby Cow, Juan Diaz, also doesn't seem to follow boxing much.

I agree with you on Shawn Porter. He seems to love the sport. Austin Trout also seems like he's pretty faithful in following the sport.

Miguel Cotto says that boxing is his career....his job....make it seems like he doesn't care about it. But he is at ringside to watch the preliminary/undercard fights....

Hagler should have been one of the FIRST guys we listed of fighter's who don't like boxing.

Manny too. I definitely get the feeling that Pac doesn't really like the sport as a fan.

Floyd? I can't tell. Probably not though. I think Roger is a legitimate fan though.

If we're talking about Ricans, I don't think Camacho really liked boxing. Just something he was good at, and a means to get out Spanish Harlem.

I think he was more a fan of partying, spending money, and cocaine than boxing.

I wouldn't be surprised if Lewis twitter account isn't even handle by him. A lot of high profile star have a pr firm to handle it for them.

As for the topic, Stephane Ouellette (mw fringe contender in the late 90's) was said to not even knew who Roy Jones was when his friend, Eric Lucas, fought him.

REED Could Also See Floyd Saying he's NOT a Fan of Boxing, Even Though he's Been Spotted @ COUNTLESS Vegas Fights Over the Years...He was Even @ a Chad Dawson Fight 1nce & Gave an On-Air Interview Calling Dawson "The BEST Fighter in the World."

Nah, Camacho did loved the sport. I remember when Wilfredo Gomez fought Rocky Lockdrige and Camacho was at ringside cheering for Gomez and got so hyped he took off his shirt and was throwing punches and shouting instructions at Gomez!

MyGirl Cotto doesn't watch any fight he has no sort of personal interest on, be either a potential opponent or one of his protégés. Otherwise he doesn't watch boxing at all.

Tito Trinidad follows the sport. Even in PR he'll be spotted at boxing events.

Miguel Cotto comes off like a prick but he's a fan. He's been seen at fights and he watches his opponents.

Fernando Vargas as well, though it seems he's more into MMA these days.

A guy like Pacquiao is legit too busy to keep up with the sport unlike Floyd whom is full of shit and is so insecure that he needs to tell himself and others that his life is "so great" that he doesn't watch his opponents or other fights, yet he's a known gambler who bets on fights :wack:

    JMM is a fan.

Canelo is probably not a fan. Seems like a treats it like a job.
