Call it 'Turtle Power'. Michael Bay's new remake of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles had a better opening than expected taking the top spot with $65.5 million this weekend. The brand is still solid with audiences who ignored the mostly bad reviews (20% rotten) and bought tickets anyway. 55% of the audience was male over the age of 25 which points to the nostalgia factor. The turtles are popular with todays kids thanks to the success of the current animated tv series. But expect this film to experience a huge drop next week when word of mouth shoos away casual moviegoers. Guardians of The Galaxy took a 55% plunge in its second weekend mostly because of the unexpected numbers of the Turtles. Still, the Marvel Studio film took a solid $42.1 million which puts its 10 days total in $176.5 million, the only summer film to reach that amount in such short time. Debuting in the third place is the B-movie Into The Storm with $17.3 million. The effects heavy film attracted 55% of female audiences over the age 25. Also debuting this week is the Helen Mirren Bollywood-like film The Hundred Foot Journey which took the forth spot wit a so-so $10.9 million. Sliding from the #2 to the number 5 spot with $9.6 mllion, Lucy continues to be the mini-blockbuster of the summer. The scifi action film has grossed so far $97 million domestically and has a good chance to end its worldwide numbers close to $200 million. Step up All In debuted in the sixth spot with $6.4 million. In a recent milestone, Dawn of The Planet of The Apes crossed the $500 million mark in its worldwide grosses. It is the first film in the franchise to accomplish such level of success.
Blame those same kids from the 90's who loved those shitty movies who now as adults ran with their kids to watch the new version. Those are the 55% that were over the age 25 who bought tickets this weekend for the ninja turtles movie.
exactly. 55% over the age of 25 who brought their kids under the age of 25. If only 25 & Up went to see the movie, it would have made no money.
:wrong: If they were 10 years old in 1990 they will be 34 years old now. They can pretty much have 10 years old children now. Your logic FAILED. :baa:
