Thing is, for all this hardcore training you "say" you do, everyone still thinks of you as Pic #1, but with that pathetic 'my-shorts-are-too-tight' face you have and tiny Thalidomide arms.

I made it down to 156, Hanzy. I don't want to get much leaner. I was talking to sly on Facebook and he's pretty impressed. He's having trouble getting below 180. He needs to cut out them desserts.

Wow! 156 is some impressive stuff! How do you feel strength-wise as compared to when you were bigger? Do you struggle with the heavier weights in the gym now that you leaned down?

I changed my training so that I could shed the weight. I did a Tabatas-style routine with pretty decent results, but I had to decrease the weight I regularly use by at least 50% (More in some exercises) so that I could handle the 20 seconds exercise - 10 seconds rest period between sets and exercises. I'm starting to build my strength back up, and we'll see how it goes.

The biggest changes were to my eating habits, LOK (including cutting out alcohol---beer for the most part---so I keep my energy level consistent). Jogging 5-8km a day for months at a time also had a big impact. Right now I'm just below 170, but I'm at 14.5% bodyfat. I want to get it down to between 8-10% and keep it there year-round.

Oh ok. So you went down to 156 and then it got very difficult to maintain so you had to increase a bit?

No, I was a bit dehydrated from a cold, felt like I was losing weight too fast, and sacrificing muscle. I decreased the amount of long distance running and started adding more complex carbohydrates to my diet. Still, my bodyweight can fluctuate by 5 or so lbs. I'm mid-160s right now, but I can drop back down.

Ah ok. Yeah, you're a more powerful build so being down in the 150s would be difficult. You'd probably be good at 175-185 or around there so you're lean and muscled too. My brother tried to lose too much weight and he wasn't half as strong as he used to be. He was benching 295 for a one rep max and then 3 years later after training for marathons, couldn't even put up 170

I'm getting as lean as I can with muscle. I'm feeling much better at this weight.

How has your strength been affected by such weight/fat-loss? (if it has)

I can work up to my max strength levels in a month or two, but my training focus and workouts have changed greatly due to my desire to get as lean as possible. Right now I'm doing a fair bit of tabatas-style cardio and weight-training. Another type of training that lets me get lots of sets in fast is up-and-down the dumbbell rack training.

By increasing dumbbell weights by 5lbs per set and doing 6 reps per set, I can a much higher volume workout with minimal rest periods. Today, during a workout that lasted less about 40 minutes, I did 55 sets for shoulders and triceps. Not hard to do when you're doing 6 reps per set for almost every set.

I'm about 15.5% bodyfat right now, and I want to get it down to 10%.

I started training again recently after years of more or less sitting on my bumbum. All i do is snatch grip rack pulls, weighted chin ups, weighted dips and farmers walks, twice a week. In an out. I'm getting my strength back up fairly quickly though. I'm enjoying it.

Did 5x5 chin ups and dips with 20k on the belt. Girls were looking at me, probably, and I was all like, yee yee, pure struttin' and shit. Little Peggy March on my headphones heavy PUMPED. My snatch grip rack pulls still suck though.

You do weighted chin ups with 20kg on your weight belt, Hut? I worked up to doing 3 sets of 5 with 25kg recently, but I am dropping the weight in all my exercises by about 10kg in order to decrease the rest periods in between sets and avoid sticking points.

Anyhow, we took a quick picture yesterday to show my progress. Otto the Autopilot reporting in. It's a bit blurry, but then so am I. I was tired after a long work week.

About 170. I'm down over 50lbs and holding steady. Now I'm going to focus on shedding the bodyfat and getting as cut as possible so I can get that one-armed chin up. I was pretty close for awhile there, but I need to be leaner. Apparently LOK got 3/4 of one. I'm jealous. I wish I could get that close.

Weird side note: the pic looks stretched out horizontally here at work. I posted the same picture on my FB account and it looks less stretched out horizontally. Apparently Fightbeat makes you gain 10lbs or something, including in your skull. LOL.

TOTALLY David Leeder, who posted a photo of himself back on the SecondsOut forum back in 2000, when somebody (prolly Everlast) asked: "Whats wrong with you? You look like you're crying/pissing your pants"

I didn't post a picture of myself in 2000. I used a friend's desktop camera in 2001 to get a pic of myself, but it was one of those ones that took a tiny out-of-focus pic that pixellated noticeably when you expanded it. What can I say? I'm about as deadpan as Buster Keaton.

How about a pic of yourself since you're into weight training, DM? Let's see if you practice what you preach regarding squats.
