I think this movie is going to flop and I think a large reason for that will be due to the title. Unless this gets major promotion (and I have a feeling it won't) it's going to flop. The title doesn't do it justice. There is also the strong possibility this movie is being mispromoted in the trailer. They're selling it like some true Moby Dick story, but I read about this story and if they stay true to it most of it should play out like Life of PI which means watching groups of sailors trying to survive for several days on 2 or 3 life rafts. According to the story, the whale did sink their ship, but after that I don't think he bothered anyone again.

    You..were...RIGHT!! :bears:

The movie tanked badly grossing only $11.1 million this weekend which is disastrous for this $100 million plus budgeted film. Add to that the terrible reviews, 42% rotten and that 'Star Wars' is debuting this week, and the only way his film is going is sinking down like a shipwreck.

I watched this last night and it was pretty uninspiring really.
That much, that...I fast-forwarded to when Moby's Dick appeared and sploshed around a bit....and finally stopped watching after 1 hr, turned out the lights and jerked-off instead.

It's gotten so-so reviews. Disappointing. I was hoping it'd be one of the year's better movies.

I saw it this morning. It was a good movie. Not great and probably not what you're expecting, but I found it better than critics have been saying about it. 7/10.

In The Heart of the Sea I had to agree with Xplosive in that this movie was better than what the critics were saying. Not a memorable film, by any stretch of the imagination, but actually entertains with its excellent cinematography, decent acting, acceptable CGI effects and compelling plot. Why then it failed to reach greatness lies entirely on Ron Howard's uninspired direction. Here we have characters that we should have cared about, but we don't. Scenes that should have made us cringe in terror and be shocked, left us cold and emotionally detached. Howard's direction seemed to be in autopilot, to be honest. On a positive note I love all the care put into small details of the sets and costumes which made them look authentic. Hemsworth was okay, Gleeson was brilliant, Peter Parker (Tom Holland) was very good. I can recommend this movie for one viewing only keeping in mind that is acceptable, but nothing that you'll be talking about next week. 7/10
