Finally, set for January 17 (but I read this date could change). Wilder's first real test and it's a matchup I feel he could get blown away in, in no time at all. I don't see any outstanding qualities in Wilder, except for the fact that he has natural power, and if he can catch Stiverne clean on the button early, he has a chance. He might well catch Stiverne too because from what I've seen of Stiverne he has a tendency to carry his left hand low at times, but, he always has his right hand in position to counter. Wilder's never been past four I think either, so maybe his best chance of winning is to aim to get the job done early. It should be an explosive fight as these two guys don't like each other. I'm not expecting this one to go the distance.
Should be exciting. Both guys are going to concentrate on scoring a on-punch KO. Old timers are going to say afterwards that neither can fight but for the two it is the best strategy
We'll Learn MORE about Wilder in this 1 Bout than we Have in the Preceding 30+ (or Whatever)... It's Not Often Boxing Offers Up an INTRIGUING Heavyweight Championship Fight, These Days, But This is Certainly 1... REED:mj:
agreed, I don't think too highly of either fighters, but it's a fun fight (on paper at least) and at the end of the day's, that's what boxing is all about. I've said it before and I'll say it again, there's a lot of interesting fights to be made at hw. But unfortunately, the contenders would rather fight garbage man in hope of cashing in the Klitshko lottery instead of earning their title shot the hard way. With the WBC title out of their hands, we may see an end to this pattern.
Usually it's an exaggeration when people say "These guys would never contend in a previous era.".......... But in this case, it's true. Both these guys are bums. In the 90's, neither one of these fuckin bums would ever make it on tv. I'd have picked Michael Grant over both of them. That's how far the division has sunk. Having said, I'll watch it for the pure fact that I wanna see Stiverne stretch this loud mouth fraud. Beyonce Wilder insulted Tyson. Disrespectful when you consider that he LITERALLY would not last a round with a young Tyson. Fuckin loud mouth bum.
I wouldn't say stiverne is a bum. He's got some slickness to his game, and for a heavyweight, some real speed too. And he can punch. He would've ko'd grant. With wilder you just don't know but if I had to guess, he gets ko'd here and looks pitiful in the process.
http://www.boxingscene.com/forums/showthread.php?t=634212 a good summary this should be a fun fight. both guys are unproven, both guys can bang. IF wilder wins, good matchups exist for him with tyson fury & wald pussy.
Who is Deontay Wilder? Honestly, I can't believe he insulted Tyson like that. I only like the Stiverne-Wilder matchup because I think it's gonna be explosive, but Wilder is a nobody with a big, loud, annoying mouth. I hope he gets sparked out.
I'm not that surprised, he seems like a twat. I hope Bermane wins, and I think he's the better, more skilled guy, but the truth is I've barely seen either guy fight.
Wilder's power may not even be all that when coming up against the bigger names in the division. Who's he knocked out? Audley fucking Harrison and Malik Scott :: plus a long list of nobodies.
Wilder's power is legit. Stiverne reminds me of McCall and Mercer in his build and skillset. Yes, he could have competed in the 90's just as they did. Wilder is still the unknown. His offense is excellent, his defense seems decent, his punch resistance is a question mark. Stiverne figures to land more than one solid punch on Wilder before the fight is over. We should have some answers about both by the end of the fight.
Wilder looed wild and reckless as hell when he let his hands go against Harrison. Lost his balance and everything. Clumsy. I only say his power may be questionable because we haven't yet seen him hit an opponent with some sort of chin.
If Wilder FIGHTS Half as Good as he BOASTS, he Just May Be the Man to Rekindle American Interest in the Heavyweight Division... Even if Stiverne EXPOSES Wilder, he'll Immediately Jump on the Short List of Somewhat Intriguing Opponents for Wlad, Along w/Tyson Fury... Wilder-Stiverne will Be EXPLOSIVE as Hell, for as Looooooooooooong as it Lasts...Can't Wait to See it This Weekend... REED:hammert:
I get the feeling it won't be as explosive as many think, but it'll have an explosive ending. i can see a cagey, tentative opening few rounds before both guys let their hands go.
This is two guys we know nothing about. Stiverne beat up Arreola in style, but slow, plodding, crappy Arreola was tailor made for him. Otherwise he doesn't have a single good result on his record, his next best win is a late stoppage of Ray Austin after a struggle. Wilder has blasted out has-beens and Scott who obviously gave up. Seems that Stiverne's only game is to lay back and wait for counter opportunities. He is surprisingly quick and punches hard when he gets them but if he is made to lead he looks very bad, As for Wilder, we don't know yet if he has a game at all, apart from flailing away like a drunken sailor. The only thing we know a little bit is their power, but we don't know which one is the bigger puncher. Stiverne is obviously a B+ type of puncher, I'd say he is somewhere between Bowe and Mercer in that regard (obviously not as good as them overall). As for Wilder, he could be an A if not A+, but he could be a C too when he steps up. An all-out war, fun drunk fight, quick KO, total domination or worthless scrubfest, pretty much anything is possible here
Sad to think we once had Lewis, and Bowe. Big men with actual talent. Now we have Beyonce Wilder............
