I wasn't rooting much for any film this year since my favorites were ignored during the nominations. I was surprised that Michael Keaton didn't won just because he was the favorite though I thought the eventual winner did a better job (check my review of 'The Theory of Everything'). Lady Gaga's 'Sound of Music' rendition was fantastic, the highest point o the ceremony, didn't knew she had such a great vocal range.
The news this morning is the low ratings the Oscars had last Sunday: a 16% drop from last year which is the lowest ratings of the show in six years. And we all know why. Here is what a reporter wrote today: Nominees lack box office might. Oscar Ratings Collapse: What a 16% Drop Means for the Live Telecast The biggest culprit appears to be the movies, for the most part an eclectic mix of mainly quirky and thoughtful indie films that did fair-to-middling business at the box office. However artful, they didn't generate much mainstream interest at multiplexes or for Sunday night's show. One can't help but wonder how the show would have done with "Gone Girl," "Interstellar" "Guardians of The Galaxy" and "The LEGO Movie" in the mix.
And John Travolta made headlines again by being just a creep: first by not 'let it go' Idina Menzel's face on the live telecast and using her face as play-do. Then in the Red carpet for the unsolicited, uncomfortable, out-of-nowhere smooching Scarlett Johansson who was visibly mortified by this action.
