http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/boxing/32650678 [h=1]Carl Froch stripped of WBA belt after failing to defend title[/h] Carl Froch has been stripped of his WBA super-middleweight belt for not defending his title and could announce his retirement next week. The British fighter, who has already given up his IBF belt, has not fought since defeating George Groves at Wembley nearly a year ago. A clash with Julio Chavez Jr in Las Vegas in March fell through because of the 37-year-old's elbow injury. "There's no guarantee he'll fight again," said promoter Eddie Hearn. Hearn also told Sky Sports News: "We have no problem with the decision from the WBA. They need to keep their belts active and that's not possible with Carl's current position. "Carl has been out of the ring for nearly a year now. It's likely we will make a further announcement regarding Carl's future over the next week or so."
He grew on me over the years. Accomplished champion. Fought everyone. Not truly great, but very good.
Thats mt take. Far more likeable inside the ring than outside it. He's a knob-jockey at SKY now, towing their line.
For everybody wondering why he won't face a guy like Kov, Froch last week ADMITTED that light heavy's are too strong and too powerful for him. In other words, he was trying to say that he knows Kov would beat the shit outta him. That's food for thought for any Froch groupies who thought he had a chance. And of course, he blew off GGG by saying that Golov is a middleweight. Anyway, I wish Farmer Froch the best and can't really hate on the guy. He's one of the biggest overachievers we've ever seen. For a guy with such limited talent, he sure as Hell went a LOOONNNGGG way. I was kinda hoping he did land that Chavez fight. He deserved to thrash that waste of life Junior in his going away party. But at least he can say that the last punch he ever threw knocked Groves into the middle of next week.
:: Pretty much. If Kessler was bending him in half with right hands to the body then Kovalev would have fucked him up, El Pronto.
Well I mean, he's never been a light-heavy and the only "light-heavies" he ever proved himself against were guys like Glen Johnson, who campaigned from 160 through to 175, and Pascal, whom he beat, again, at 168. I wouldn't hold it against him that he never had any major success against legit, name 175lb champs, he's not a 175lb fighter, and fought damned near everyone he could have at his chosen weight, sometimes twice!
I don't fault him at all for not moving up. Him versus Kov is a mismatch. I'd rather see Froch vs Golov, which is less of a mismatch, but GGG seems Hell bent on trying to land Cotto.
Chavez could surely recover from the Fonfara fight and beat some guy by TKO, thus setting up the Froch fight at MGM Grand
Froch is stripped of an interim title. No big deal. The point of the interim title is to be #1 in line to fight the main champ. If the main champ can't fight you, you get elevated to the main title. If the main champ won't fight you, you get elevated to the main title. An interim title isn't something that you really should be defending if the sanctioning body is doing its job. Maybe once. When you look at what's going on with the WBA Supermid situation, it's Ward who should be stripped with Froch being elevated to the position as their champ. The WBA is the worst sanctioning body of the main 4.
He had a good career... A solid fighter who fought pretty much everybody decent around his weight. Ugly duckling sort of style but he made it work
That's because Groves ran like a bitch and didn't want to engage, plus we all know how controversial the stoppage in the first fight was
I think Groves barely got passed DeGale but this DeGale hype is now out of control and its no surprise that the self-styled "Black British Promoter" Ambrose Mendy is involved with his Darcus Howe style bullshit. This fucking moron thinks DeGale is Errol Christie and that it is 1984 all over again. Guy is a pleb. DeGale lost to Groves AGES ago and has done VERY VERY LITTLE since. That's the reality. Paul Smith has managed to fight Groves, Abraham twice and now Ward in the same period that DeGale has been fighting the Pedro's and Mustafas of the boxing world.
No. Smith was "picked" to fight Groves, Abraham and Ward. He hadn't actually earned those fights. Chunky was told the fighters he had to beat to become mandatory for Froch, he beat them, and then suddenly Froch doesn't wanna know.
