Was looking at this Marriaga cat on Youtube. This is gonna be a helluva fight for as long as it lasts. Marriaga's a no bullshit, come forward Columbian slugger who's heavy handed. I think that'll lead to him getting blasted out by Walter's power, but it's gonna be fun while it lasts.

From what I saw of Marriaga on Youtube, I'd pick him over that fraud Santa Cruz.

Agreed. Walters is a top 10 puncher in the sport, so I don't see it ending well for the Colombian, but it's gonna be an explosive 5-6 round fight.

And Verdejo on the UC against some unbeaten guy I've never seen.

Who else is looking forward to this fight? Seeing some Marriaga fights on Youtube leads me to believe this fight is gonna be a war.

Does this Marriaga guy fight like Maidana, but with slightly better boxing skills?

Yeah, this should be among the best fights of the year. I also read the thing about Marriaga beating Walters in the amateurs, which is an interesting sidenote. Not sure if it means much though, since Walters' style is made for pros and he is a bit of a late bloomer as a fighter

    He is a huge featherweight.

Well, there goes any chance of Loma-Walters happening at 126.

Hopefully its a case of outgrowing the division as opposed to not training properly. Walters probably needs to move up.

Should be a good night of boxing.

I can see this being like a chess match but it will probably be an all-out war. Neither guy likes to take a backwards step.

Walters to demonstrate good/better boxing fundamentals and will measure and time Marriaga to get the W.

Who cares about Walters? El DEMENTO is the main star of the night and he made the weight.

There was nothing particularly spectacular about Walters last night. Looked much bigger than Marriaga.

Walters looked literally 2 divisions bigger. Pretty unfair fight. Walters is good though, just hard to tell how good, as he's looked 2 divisions bigger than all his recent opponents. Looks like a good sized lightweight Vs featherweights.

I think Loma beats Walters but it's the best fight that can be made at 126.

Would like to see Loma vs Rigo soon but I doubt it happens.

This is nothing new. I've always disliked unfair fights where one guy looks several divisions bigger. I simply don't care about catchweights much, doesn't really bother me.

In fact this is the opposite of catchweights. I don't have a problem with catchweights as it's a sort of equaliser for the smaller guy. What I don't like to see is a fight where the size seems to be the main factor, like Crawford Vs Gamboa, and this Walters fight.

The Columbian might have knocked Walters out if they were the same size.

It's possible, his shots would obviously have more effect, and he was landing that quick right hand clean when he let his hands go.

Just like Crawford Vs Gamboa, it was a fight where size seemed to play the largest role. In both cases the bigger guy could take the smaller guy's shots without much trouble and walk him down, but the same wasn't true in reverse.

With regards to Crawford-Gamboa, I still think Crawford wins, size advantage or not. He's smarter and has better fundamentals. Gamboa has superior natural talent, but he's somewhat of a dumb fighter. Always lunging in, chin in the air, wild punches, and too cocky. Maybe it isn't a KO but TC to me is a better fighter and wins regardless.

Like I mentioned in the other thread, I'm all for Verdejo-Linares once Felix heals up. I think that fight will move him in the right direction.

Maybe, maybe not, the point is it's a different fight.

Given the way Gamboa was lighting him up early, but his offense was having uncharacteristically little effect due to Crawford being 2 divisions bigger, I think he'd have an excellent chance against Crawford if they were the same size.

So walter's main redeeming quality is that he's big for 126 and dwarfs his opponents there.
