Good fight! And for anybody who wanted to see AB lose again, here's your chance. I think Porter is gonna be too much for Broner. Brook had the power to deter Porter, and was much taller. Broner has neither. Porter by UD or late stoppage.
We'll see. Assuming he can make 144 safely, I think he'll win. IF Broner wins, it won't be a huge shock. He does have the better skills of the two. I just feel like Porter will be too physically strong for him. IF there's a ref that doesn't allow Porter to be rough in close, then Broner can win. Credit to AB for fighting Porter instead of that junior lightweight he was gonna face. Broner has beaten three mediocre fighters since the Maidana loss. It was time to step up.
Do you think the plan will be for Spence to fight the winner? Spence doesn't need any more fights to beat Broner or Porter. He could do so right now.
Berto's Repeatedly PASSED on Fighting Spence Since 2013...Haymon Would have to OVERPAY Berto, for that Bout to Happen... REED:mj:
Berto couldn't beat Spence in his PRIME, let alone now that he's washed up. I think Spence would dust him within 5. Who you pickin between AB and SP, REED?
QUALITY Matchup for Certain... Porter LACKS Maidana's Power, but he'll Be IN Broner's Chest Similarly, All Night Loooooooong...So If Broner CAN'T Hurt Porter or @ Least EARN his Respect, it Could Be a Looooooooooooong Ass Night... Likewise, if Broner's Jab, Workrate and Mobility are No Better than What we've Seen, he's in Trouble...w/Out Making a Prediction (Yet), REED's Leaning Towards Porter by Clear UD...REED Doesn't Think 144 will Impact Porter All that Much... REED WILL Predict a High Contact, ACTION Fight Though...No Way in Hell will this Bout Be Boring... REED:shadow:
Being that this such a high stakes fight, I doubt Porter would have signed the contract if he felt 144 would kill him. And whilst Porter might not have Maidana's power, he CAN hurt Broner. If he can hurt Alexander, and knock the living shit outta Paulie (both of those guys have solid chins), then he can also hurt Broner.
A competive, interesting fight...but not a quality matchup, IMO. Neither guy is quality. I feel like that's a prerequisite.
That's like a snob statement. Why do they have to be elite for it to be a compelling fight? They're both GOOD fighters, just not good enough to be elite. But when two good fighters come together, and it's a nice mix of styles, it's a compelling fight.
More than Anything, Shawn Porter is SERIOUS... He's Not Terribly Skilled or Talented, but he's an Honest, SERIOUS Fighter & a SERIOUS Effort is Required to Defeat Him...& the Thing is, Porter Really CAN'T Afford to Lose Either...He'll Be Every Bit as HUNGRY as he was vs. Paulie... So If Broner's Fucking Around in Preparation, as he Usually Does, or Gets Toooooooo Playful DURING the Fight, it'll Cost Him...Broner's Gonna have to MATURE Quickly, to Beat Porter... REED:mj:
Not to speak for REED, but I'm almost certain you're taking out of content what he meant by "quality". I think he meant that it's a quality MATCHUP, not that the pedigree of the two fighters is quality.
I have a feeling Broner is probably already too far gone. If the weight doesn't kill him, I definitely like Porter here.
I expect Broner to be in good shape. And I expect him to stand in front of Porter and stand with him the way he did Emmanuel Taylor.
They're Both BONAFIED Top 10 Contenders in their Respective Divisions... It's Not a "Big", "Mega" or "Super" Fight, Obviously, but Broner-Porter IS Quality...You Even Said Yourself it's "Competitive" and "Interesting"...What's Your Definition of "Quality", Bro???... REED:dunno:
Sure, it's an argument over the interpretation of words. To me, the matchup can't be quality if the fighters aren't. This'll be an ugly fight between a skillless guy who tries hard, and a (arguably) decently skilled guy who doesn't. Meh.
A quality fight, to me, involves a couple of fighters I think are good or very good. I have a tough time getting excited about either of these guys. Agree to disagree.
2 World Class, Top 10 Guys, In their Prime, w/Styles that MESH Well On Paper... That's a "Quality" Matchup for Sure... REED:dance2:
Every Brit is rooting for Porter. If he beats the shit outta AB, Brook's stock rises. Then I remembered, Broner has no fans left. EVERYBODY is rooting for Porter.
I just read that the contract stipulates that neither can come in more than 145. So in theory, Porter can come in at 145. He'll be fine.
Pretty sure Bradley vs. J. Vargas is scheduled for the same night or a week later. That's a quality matchup as well. As for the Porter fight, I hate to say it, but the outcome is going to largely depend on the referee. If the referee breaks them quickly and allows Broner to control the pace by tying up, Broner will most likely win. Porter's job of course will be to not allow Broner to hold. And I think he can. But if the ref breaks them the second they tie up, then it won't matter. In that case, the pattern of the fight, thanks to the ref, will favor Broner. Of course, it's possible Broner won't hold, and will fight inside or use his legs. If it's the former, I think it's a pick em fight. If it's the latter, I pick Porter.
