He was back, but not at its former box office glory. In the worst opening of its franchise, the very expensive Terminator Genisys was 'terminated' upon arrival with an abysmal $28.7 million in its three days weekend numbers barely beating Magic Mike XXL by a hair for the third spot. Even when you add the five days grosses it still came short of its studio modest expectations with just $44.2 million. This is bad news for $155 million budget (plus $50 million in marketing) production which now hopes that the international grosses can save it like it happened with Pacific Rim. But the big difference is that the Guillermo Del Toro scifi film had great reviews that generated word of mouth while the Arnold cyborg reboot has mostly dreadful reviews. Even if it recoups its investment one is for sure: the plans for a trilogy are being scrapped as of now.

In a battle royale-like for the box office supremacy, leftovers Inside Out & Jurassic World slug it out mightily and when the dust cleared it looks like the dinosaurs won the weekend race again with $30.9 million versus the Pixar movie's $30.1 million. But that could change tomorrow when the actual numbers are released since the Disney film outgrossed the Spielberg sequel in the five days holiday totals with $45.3 million which, if the trend continues tonight, might place Inside Out in the rare position of reaching the number one spot on its third weekend.

Magic Mike XXL opened in the fourth spot with $11.6 million on the weekend and $27 million for its five days total which is lower than the opening of the first film three years ago ($39.1 million). It appears that the fans rushed to watched it on its opening night, but stayed at home for the fourth of july fireworks as its Saturday numbers plummeted dramatically.

Moday's actual numbers are in and the three weeks reign of Jurassic World at the top has ended. Inside Out finally took the #1 spot in its third weekend with $29.8 million. Jurassic World is now in the second spot with $29.2 million followed by Terminator Genisys with $27 million. Magic Mike XXL actually made a little bit more than estimated with $12.9 million contrary to the first three which saw its numbers go down than previous estimations on Sunday. Recaping, this has been a very dreadful 4th of July, but not as the all time bad like last year when the top two grossers Tammy and Earth to Echo did not delivered fireworks at the box office. Next year all that will change when the most highly anticipated movies of the summer 2016 will be released: 'Tarzan', 'BFG' and 'The Purge 3'...
