    Announced his retirement earlier.

Fair play to him as he's had a successful career, but I'm a little pissed as I wanted to see him fight DeGale or GGG.

Expect him to join Sky Sports' punditry team now.

Bit of a shame, I would have loved to see him slap DeGale about, or get beaten up by Gaybox, but yeah the Fighting Farmer has had a relatively incredible career.

    Good for him.

He's had a very good career and has been an overachiever. Ugly style to watch, but he took on good opposition and was good for the sport

It's a safe bet that he'll ditch that broad sooner than later. Possibly slap her around or something. Retired boxers are an emotional wreck.

Good for Carl. I'm happy for him.

As far as I'm concerned he rates far higher than Calzaghe.

Froch's style wasn't pretty but it was effective. I could see Joe outlanding him two slaps to one then Carl turns his lights out.

    Yeah, sure.

If anyone is getting stopped, its Froch.

I reckon he'd be cut to shreds by the 8th round, and exhausted...he probably would be struggling to land one farmerish punch at a time...and nobody took out Calzaghe with a singe shot, and Froch was no one-hitter-quitter, when you get down to it.

He needed two attempts to get past Kessler FFS.

Good fighter, brave man, but he's not beating Calzaghe in a million years.

word. Calzaghe is still underrated I see.

Calzaghe was the real deal. Extremely good fighter.

Calz would have beaten Froch soundly.

Other than Jones, Ward, and an in-shape Toney, I don't see any other supermiddles beating Calz.

Froch is def not on that list. Too slow for Joe.

In Joe's defense, he never ducked Froch.

When Calz retired, Froch was a NOBODY who had beaten no one of note.

Yeah, the two verbally sparred after Calz had retired, but it's not like Calz made a comeback then avoided Froch. He never elected to come back at all. He simply had no more motivation.

If Froch were established during Calz prime, you'd have an argument on Joe ducking him.

Saying that, Froch has had an excellent career, the personification of hard graft and self-belief. Good luck to him.

Not much more to add, really. Froch should have achieved nothing - he is slow but thinks he is fast, his defence is hideous, he cannot fight a lick against anyone with a bit of speed, he wings punches in the most agricultural way imaginable - yet he has one of the best CV's anyone can remember and has amassed several excellent victories over opponents favoured by many to beat him mostly because he made the most of a very good chin and a limitless well of stamina which allowed him to win fights late when his opponents got too tired from punching him repeatedly. He deserves his retirement; a beating from GGG at this stage would have been an ill-fitting way for him to go out.

He rates higher than Calzaghe, historically, IMO. His resume and his willingness to fight anyone, anywhere (and more often than not win) does that for him. But I agree with Irish and others. Joe is a terrible style match-up for Froch. Really bad. Froch wouldn't land a punch all night and would take a hell of a slap-whipping.

I don't think he will. Calzaghe's resume is a LOT weaker than Froch's.

Yeah but he didn't lose to Kessler either. Froch managed to drop the same decision to Kessler that Bumdine did
