According to some French media outlet, this is a done deal.

Not that I trust it, but if this does go down, what would be the point???

It's not like the first fight was all that competitive. :dunno:

Kovalev is the type of fighter...who should have 2-3 opponents a night...Pascal and 2 even easier gimmie fights.

Since Ward, Stevenson and joonyuh all seem to want no part of him I guess Pascal is the biggest money fight available.

that's what happens when the broadcaster want to have exclusive rights to a fighter and play the promoters. If boxing wasn't a pos, Main Events (and more importantly, HBO), would have went to the WBC mandated purse bid for the Stevenson fight. This way, we would have seen the fight and the 2 boxers would maximize their $$$. Instead, we get meaningless, uncompetitive fights.

Nope, while I don't think it was Kovalev decision, it's Main Event (Kovalev promoter) who avoided the fight, not the other way around.

I think people have already forgotten that Pascal got an absolute GIFT in his last fight. I don't even remember the name of the cat he fought, but I remember him losing clear as day.

January 30th in Montreal is looking like the date for Pascal's retirement party.

Yep, Cuban Brother was WHIPPING Pascal's Ass Early...

Despite Being a Jittery, FINESSE Fighter, Pascal's Exhibited True TOUGHNESS, as Evidenced by his Bouts w/Froch, Kovalev and the Cuban Brother (Yuneski Gonzalez???)...Still, Going from Kovalev to Cuban Brother, BACK to Kovalev is HAZARDOUS to 1's Health...

Pascal has NATHAN for Kovalev (Beyond Handspeed and Overall AFFleticism) and Gets Highlight Reel/10 Count KO'ed in 3-4 Rounds...

This one will probably end quicker than last time.

One of the most pointless rematches in recent memory.

I can't ever recall a rematch for a one sided beat down that was originally EXPECTED to be a one sided beat down and turned out as expected.

This is the EXACT same shit as a GGG-Lemieux rematch. Pascal was nomore competitive against Kov as LeMoo was with Golov.

Let's be real, Pascal was a million more time more competitive than Lemieux was. Still, it's a stupid rematch, as he wasn't THAT competitive, and I doubt he's versatile enough to change his style and make it a different fight than the first

Pretty hard to call any 1st round KO a one sided beatdown and it wasn't uncommon for the former champ to get another shot back then. It is however a good example of being pointless. (foregone conclusion)

I think ODLH-Chavez 2 was worse although people watching them back to back will see Julio appear to be more competitive.

Good call on De La Hoya-Chavez. Silly rematch, Chavez had about as much chance as an ice cube in an inferno.

Hopkins also had a couple of pointless rematch during his mw reign, but they were mandantory.

Dawson rematch against Tarver was also as pointless as it could get.

Yeah the first one was unsatisfactory due to the bad cut but it was clear to anybody without a Mexican flag tattooed on them who was better at that point. The rematch was meant to appease some of those fans (and make money in the process) but Oscar was able to do it because he had a smaller guy (who was also shot) in front of him.

If De La Hoya approached the rematch like he did the first it would have been even worse for Chavez.

Good one. Pascal-Kovalev is far from the worst one. At least, it had good action and decent drama.

Chavez was a former great fighter, and the hope was perhaps he could be great again for ONE night.

    What's the hope with Pascal?

Honestly, Pascal's ONLY ONLY hope is that Kov is so fuckin bored and overconfident that he TOTALLY underestimates Pascal and shits the bed. And even IF he was bored and overconfident, he's soooooooo much better than Pascal that he'd still win in the end.

chavez was broke and needed a payday. delahoya needed a more decisive victory since the first fight was dubious. clearly chavez came into the match with a bad cut, that opened immediately. rematch made sense for both parties. it was just funny seeing the dildo recipient celebrating like he'd beat a prime ray leonard after he struggled for 8 rounds and finally made the old guy quit.

Dawson-Tarver I was boring and only sold 911 tickets, the only reason it was made was so that HBO could have Dawson in it's stable (another example of why it's bad when networks plays promoters)

Looks like Pascal is training with Freddie Roach...

Will make no difference. Kov will still make minced meat out of him.
