Jack Back is back. Not that he ever left, mind you, but at least as a box office winner. Well, people didn't actually ran to watch him, but the movie adaptation of the still very popular name brand of Goosebumps which audiences seemed to love with a Cinemascore grade of 'A' regardless the so-so reviews by critics. The film found its target audience of age 25 and under with a cume of $43.5 million which is great for this modest budget ($58 million) film. Release timing was also key as the pre-Halloween season will be crowded this year in the next two weeks.

Moving to the second spot, the two weeks champ The Martian added a third week solid $21.5 million for a current domestic total of $143.7 million. It is currently helmer's Ridley Scott third best numbers ever and at the pace this film is going, it will easily become his most successful film ever, pushing aside Gladiator ($187.7 million) and Hannibal ($165 million).

Opening in the third spot with a disappointing $15.4 million Bridge of Spies had one of the lowest openings ever for director Spielberg & Tom Hanks. While the film had only a $40 million budget, it is still not very likely IMO that the critically acclaimed period film will double its budget domestically. Personally I want to see Spielberg go back to his roots and do another summer scifi epic, which is his forte'.

Bombing on its debut, Guillermo Del Toro's Crimson Peak landed in the fourth place with a weak $12.8 million. The film's numbers were diminishing after a somewhat solid Friday and then bad word of mouth made it lose steam. This was supposed to be this weekend's new champ, not the newest flop. On the foreign front it barely made a little bit more: $13.4 million, for a worldwide cume of $26.2 million. And since next week there will be a bunch of similar horror films opening, 'Peak' will have a hard time to stay afloat to recoup its investment.

Finally, Hotel Transylvania 2 continues taking a bite at the box office with $12.2 million in the fifth place. After four weeks the goofy animated monster film has a current total of $136 million, only $12 million shy of its predecessor's total domestic numbers. HT2 will surpass that amount within the next two weeks (Halloween will help too as is the only children's film of the season). On the other hand it is unlikely that it will best the first film's worldwide total as it is underperforming in the international market.

The other new release, Woodlawn, is another faith-based sports film that came out of nowhere with practically no pro reviews, no promo, no ads, but audiences gave it a 100% certified fresh score and landed in the 9th spot with $4.1 million.
