BOMBS AWAY!!! No, it was not an air attack: it was the performance of 4 new movies that bombed so bad this weekend that they actually set new records in underperforming. Oh, and by the way, The Martian regained the top spot again for the third time in 4 weeks after briefly losing it to Goosebumps last week. The Ridley Scott scifi film took $15.9 million while the Jack Black horror goof took second place with $15.5 million. Steven Spielberg's Bridge of Spies remained firmly in the third spot with $11.3 million and Hotel Transylvania 2 also held firmly on the same 5th from last week with $9 million.

Now lets take a look at those newbies.

Debuting on the fourth spot The Last Witch Hunter took a mere $10.8 million. That would not be a bad number if it was a typical low budget horror film, but this one is an $80 million budget film (with more millions tossed in advertising), and this big budget film needs to perform great on its opening weekend or it is a fiasco. This flop also proves, again, that Vin Diesel is box office poison if the film he stars in doesn't have the words 'fast' and 'furious' and is surrounded by a bunch of other stars.

In the sixth spot Paranormal Activity The Ghost Dimension had the worst opening in the horror franchise history with $8.2 million. This is also the most expensive entry in the franchise which hasn't been disclosed the actual budget, but supposedly is in its teen millions. While not losing the shirt, but it might be the last film from this franchise or they will think 'reboot' in a couple of years.

Expanding to 2433 screens this weekend, the critic's darling Steve Jobs performed no better than the much reviled 2013 Anton Kutcher version Jobs landing in the seventh spot with $7.2 million. After 3 weeks in release the biography film has grossed just $9 million versus a $30 million budget. The studio now hopes it gets Academy Award nominations that could boost its appeal, but as it stands right now, it tanked.

Rock he Kasbah debuted in the 13 spot with the lowest number for a film opening in 2000 screens: $1.5 million. That is a new record. The studio is not disclosing its budget, but it is rumored that it is the $40 million range. This is also the lowest number for a Bill Murray film, plus the reviews were atrocious. Someone is getting fired today.

But Murray didn't had the lowest debut this weekend. That 'honor' goes to Jem and the Holograms which debuted in the 15 spot with $1.3 million. The live version of the 80's cult cartoon was made at a time when the fandom of the series dwindle down and it looks more like a Disney Channel tv movie. But since the film just cost $5 million it will not lose much, except a golden opportunity that was missed by bad timing and lack of guts.

Jobs was a technologically brilliant asshole, who was delusional and dumb enough to think that a fruit and veggie diet could cure pancreatic cancer.

Now compare the handful of people in your video to the people in mine waiting for the new apple store to open.

Not arguing about products, per se.
It was about how Apple fanboys preceived Steve Jobs when you said they didn't care about him.

And I proved to you, they did and still do, twice. :scratcher:

In other news, thanks to the $89 million grosses from China so far and counting, Marvel's ANTMAN crossed the $500 million mark in worldwide revenues, silencing those doomsayers that called it Marvel's first flop. In fact, Marvel is so pleased with its little guy that has greenlighted a sequel Antman & the Wasp. Not bad for a troubled production which no one, except Marvel, thought it was necessary to make a movie about such little known secondary character.
