I thought this would be one movie that no-one would even dream of remaking. Scheduled for 2016, starring Morgan Freemann and no-one else I've ever heard of....directed by someone called 'Timur Bekmambetov'. No clips as of yet, so post 'em here when you see 'em! The reason the original was such a success was it's massive scope and sheer size and cost: $US15 million in 1959! This new movie isn't a direct remake of that, but it's going to be judged as such.
Nah, I'll do like you and everybody else always does and make a whole new thread and title it BEN HUR.
I made a thread about this remake some time ago. http://fightbeat.com/forums/showthr...ly-unnecesary-remake&highlight=ben+hur+remake but now the project is in production, has a director attached to it (Russian Timur Bekmambetov whose credits ranges from very good 'WANTED" to very bad 'Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter') and will star Jack Huston (Boardwalk Empire) and Nazanin Boniadi (Homeland), Morgan Freeman ad Toby Kebbell. The film has a release target date of August 12, 2016.
Terrible idea. One of my favourite films of all time. It should never be remade. In fact no films should be remade but especially ones that have Biblical aspects to them. The age we live in is so politically correct and Atheist that they'd just fuck it up just for the hell of it. I wont watch it. It'll be terrible.
There are certain films that can be remade: disposable commercial films that were hits (The Fast & The Furious) or films that were good, but have dated so bad that a remake could be seen as anything but an improvement (1959 'Ben Hur' remake is an example). But then there are the beloved classics. Those should remain untouched. Like it was pointed out earlier, this 'Ben Hur' could end up being as bad as recent 'biblical' films that left out most of the biblical aspects of them for the sake of PC stupidity. If this is not a remake, but a faithful adaptation of the book, then that is good and fine as the book was even more religious in tone than the two previous films...but knowing current Hollywood trend, this will be a fiasco.
After watching "Noah" I'm not watching another "Biblical" film again. Hollywood has no respect for the Bible. I mean even if, for argument sake, the Bible is just fantasy...well why not indulge us in the fantasy? But Hollywood goes out of it's way to change the story from the source material. Noah was an abomination...and as a result I refused to watch Exodus. Ben Hur will be more filth.
I just don't get it. i thought both Noah and Exodus were not exactly blockbuster successes. Why another bible themed film? That shit won't sell. The only successful one that I remember was The Passion.
see.....what Hollywood doesn't realize is that IF they make Biblical films close to the source material then the BILLIONS of Christians worldwide would flock to see them and they would make huge dollars. But instead they cater to the liberal atheist crowd...who don't want to see a Biblical epic in any event.
Noah made some good money but veered from the bible. Exudus tanked, but it was WAAAAAy off from the bible. Movies that stay true to the source material or even deal with the subject on an honest level tend to bring in big money. Many christians actually boycotted Noah and Exodus. Those movies made it's money pretty much from Secular audience.
Clash of the Titans and it's sequel were also a mess because some fuck decided to try to modernize the stories and took too many artistic liberties. Even if Greek Mythology is fantasy and even if people want to believe that the Bible is fantasy...still stick close to the source material and the films will make more money.
