Holywood is increasingly aiming for the Chinese market as the market continues to grow. You see more Chinese elements in movies. Transformers: age of extinction was shot in Beijing for a large part of the movie. In Pacific Rim there was a Chinese robot and in the Martian the Chinese gave one if their rockets to NASA. So do you think this is temporary or will this increase in the future?
but seriously, folks, all major Hollywood blockbuster franchises are catering to the China market including scenes in China or having Chinese thespians in their films in secondary roles (X-Men: Days of Future Past Fan Bing Bing comes to mind) as well as co-productions like the Point Break remake whose budget was 40% funded by a Chinese studio & Warner Bros put 60%.
yeah they've been doing this for a while. back in 2008 they chose to give the new mummy movie a chinese villain, karate kid got set in china even though karate is Japanese, bond and batman went there in skyfall and the dark knight. Looper was a big one, got a simultaneous release in china, and the chinese setting for one portion of the movie. good movie too.
