Snozilla Jonas couldn't stop survivalist Hugh Glass to complete his long journey toward the #1 spot at the box office. After five weeks of release, the Alejando Gonzalez Iñarritu's remake of 'A Man in The Wilderness', The Revenant, finally took the top position at the box office with $16 million gross. And this was despite the fact that hundreds of movie theaters were closed due to the monster snowstorm hitting the northern part of USA. The $135 million budget filmhas now grossed $119 million domestically & $59.4 million abroad for a current total of $178 million. It still needs another $100 million globally to show a profit, which is achievable after DiCaprio & the film wins the Oscars as expected (and the darned storm goes away).

Moving back to the second spot Star Wars: The Force Awakens added $14.2 million for a current domestic total of $879 million. The film might cap around $900 million, but will not go much farther than that. Worldwide it has now $1.93 billion. It needs $70 million more to reach $2 billion, but as it's performance in China has been less than stellar, the chances of it reaching Titanic's $2.183 billion now seems highly unlikely. But lets not cry for that since both Disney, Lucasfilm, Bad Robot & J.J. Abrams are more than pleased with how great the film has performed til now and bowing out with an All Time third place of $2 billion is something that makes them very happy for the $200 million film. Plus the film has sold even more in merchandise AND when the Blu-Ray/DVD is released it is certain that will fly off the shelves on its release date.

Sliding down from top spot to the third, Ride Along 2 took home $12.9 million for a current total of $59 million. That is a 63% drop from its opening numbers which is bad news for the Ice Cube/Kevin Hart comedy.

This week's three new releases didn't make much noise as expected, but even in the face of the snowstorm and losing hundreds of screens, they still managed to perform within their expectations…well at least two of them. DirtyGrandpa took $11.5 million claiming the 4th spot. The Boy scared audiences with a genre average of $11.2 million. Chloe Grace Moretz YA scifi 'epic' The5th Wave didn't fared so well, though. The studio was expecting at least a better opening than sixth place and $10.7 million. The $38 million film will now need to get a big push from the foreign market to break even. From what I read, that is very possible since it made $27 million on the countries it opened this weekend and, who knows, maybe in China will do better than StarWars!
