Lionsgate tried to imitate the Harry Potter and The Deadly Hallows formula by splitting the last book of the 'Divergent' series into two films to milk more cash at the box office. They just forgot one little detail: this is not Harry Potter. Allegiant, the first part of the final story of this YA franchise disappointed with not only the lowest opening in the franchise, $29.4 million, but couldn't even grab the first spot from Zootopia in its third weekend. The scifi postapocalypse teen film also had the lowest ratings in the franchise (10% rotten at RT) which will not help its word of mouth in the coming weeks where it will have HUGE competition from a certain DC films showdown of superheroes. The chances of this film even cracking a domestic $80 million gross are now slim. This does not bode well for its next and final installment Ascendant which is currently in production with a price tag of $110-$130 million. More so that even fans of the books totally hated the conclusion of 'Allegiant' the book as it finished with a whimper and depressing conclusion. Unless the producers change the plot and come up with a happier ending and even that will not warrant that those that were turned off by this new movie will return for the last cash grab, as they wisely are viewing it.

Like I mentioned Zootopia is #1 again with $38.4 million, making it one of the biggest third week grossers ever. Like another famous bunny this one keeps going and going and going. Globally it has crossed the $500 million mark.

Debuting in the third spot is Sony/Affirm Films Faith-Based Miracles From Heaven which took a very nice $12.5 million which is great news for the $13 million budget film as it bested Risen opening numbers ($11 million) and that film has scored so far over $34 million. The story, based on a true story, stars Jennifer Garner, Eugenio Derbez and Queen Latifah. The film has performed better mostly among heavy Hispanic populations.

10 Cloverfield Lane almost tied in the third spot with $12.4 million, but was beaten by 'Miracles From Heaven' by a small change. The critically acclaimed 'inspired by events in Cloverfield' low budget film has now grossed $45 million in two weeks.

Rounding up the top five is FOX Merc with Mouth Deadpool which added $8.1 million to its already astonishing $341 million domestic cume. That number already puts it ahead of Marvel's Guardians Of The Galaxy and is only behind superhero behemoths 'Avengers 1 & 2' and 'Iron-Man 3'. The film has now a current (and counting) worldwide total of $730 million. Somebody give Ryan Reynolds a salary increase for the sequel.

And on a final note, this week's biggest bomb was not 'Allegiant', but Melissa Raunch's The Bronze which took only $347K weekend total from 1167 screens. It is not the worst opening ever, but it is close to 'distinction'. Apparently audiences didn't care about a dark comedy about gymnastics or they already have enough of Raunch's comedy from 'The Big Bang Theory'.

And guess what? Gods of Egypt the first megabomb of the year is actually making money overseas, thank you very much. The film has grossed so far a lousy $29 million domestically in four weeks, BUT overseas has made close to $100 million and it still has to open in such lucrative markets such as France, Germany, UK and Japan. While at the end of its run it might still not show a significant profit, at least we will have to scratch the 'bomb' label that so deservingly was tagged with until now.

    Look, Daredevil fans: Elektra!
