I have always had a soft spot for nutjobs with original skill, and thus Pryor has been the fighter whose bouts I have rewatched the most outside heavyweight

I've watched one fight of Pryor's.

And that's the only thing he gets remembered for...

Very sad day. Pryor is my 4th favorite fighter of all time behind Mike, Ali, and Roy.

Best junior welter of all time imo.

Rest in Paradise Hawk. You're reunited with your buddy Arguello now.

Loved Pryor when he destroyed geriatric cunt Cervantes Kid Pambele.
Hated him when he got the 'mix' and beat Arguello.

Missed him a lot when drugs retired him prematurely.

    RIP the Hawk

Mentioning him being ridiculously over rated has no place whatsoever in this thread. None.

I'd favor him over anybody in the history of 135-140 with the exception of Duran, Armstrong, and Whitaker. Napoles as well, since he did compete below 147 for awhile.

He wasn't a special fighter. Maybe in the same way Gatti was special. Any sharp puncher with decent power would be live against him. The Arguello fights are meant to dispel that but Arguello wasn't a Jr. welter. The guys Pryor defended against were local prospects brought in to lose, but they were natural Jr. welters and they all knocked him on his ear.

He'd make a good entertaining fight with anyone though, and he'd be a top contender in any era.

Some people are in the minority.

But you sir, are a team of one.

There's NO other person who knows this sport and has followed this sport who doesn't consider Aaron Pryor a special fighter. He was.

Gatti? You did you compare Aaron Pryor to GATTI????? Is this real life???

Top contender in any era? LOL.

Put prime Pryor at 140 today. Much as I love Crawford, there'd be a funeral in Omaha.

lol, local prospects... you say this silly shit all the time

They were top ten contenders, the guys you are supposed to defend against when you are a champ

There was nothing wrong with Arguello at 140...

Let's be honest, his comp was rather shitty (gaetan hart, Nick Furlano were indeed pretty much local fighters). I think he was a terrific fighter but it is hard to tell how great he was considering that he only fought two live guys. It's a shame that the proposed fight between him and Davey Hilton never happened. Would have been a thrilla.

Arguello sure didn't look like "not a junior welter" when he damn near ended Tyson's career before it started by almost killing his trainer.

Shawn Porter kinda tries it at times. But just ends up looking like the talentless bum he is.

No he wasn't. According to Terp, he was only slightly better than Gatti.

Sorry Terp, not every fighter can be generational type talents like Ike "Robot" Quartey.

    True.
Unfortunately when it comes to boxing, a lot of forum-members here like to ´suit themselves subjectively´ when the time arises and Pryor is and always has been a sacred cow.

But yeah, a career based on two live but at-the-end-of-their-career guys and one exciting fight.
