Finally watched this movie. I have mixed feelings about it. Overall, the acting is excellent. But no way Ali should have been nominated for an Oscar for Best Supporting Actor, let alone should he win won. He was barely in this movie. And when you saw his best scene that was moving, you wanted more of him and all of a sudden he is never in the movie again. So much potential for a great role that seem almost wasted. In the end, you are wondering what difference did this character make in the life of this young boy?

The acting was Good and the score was excellent. But this is a black movie about a gay kid struggling. Which is why it got that nominatation and might win. This kid was very odd even as a young boy and you never understood why. One would think he was abused sexually or something but the film never explores that. The film basically is saying the kid is gay since he was young and because of that he is scared, timid and just overall a loner. Strange movie, but worth seeing for the acting alone. The little boy is played by 3 different actors in different stages of his life and all of them were excellent more and deserving of a nomination than Ali.

    6.5/10

Ali was excellent as Cottonmouth in Luke Cage.

I'm hesitating to watch this movie, as reading the plot it just sounds like a plethora of negative black stereotypes rolled into a so-called "great" movie.

A closet homo young black male who's neglected by a drug addicted mother, and mentored by a drug dealer? Jesus Christ...

This is why white America believes that we ALLL come from broken, crack addicted, single mother homes.

    The faggot Lee Daniels.

Also known as the creator of that coon-a-thon God awful series, Empire.

He's a cunt. He needs to be captured and whipped.

By the way what do you think of that show "Black-ish"? The title alone makes me refuse to watch it, to be honest with you. Sounds coonish already....

No, Blackish is an EXCELLENT show! The best comedy on TV, black OR white. Don't be fooled by the title, it's not coonish in the LEAST bit and doesn't perpetuate any negative black stereotypes.

It's about a successful, progressive black family living in the suburbs and the events they go through on a daily basis to try and gain a sense of black identity in an all white neighborhood, and especially Anthony Anderson, who's a highly successful advertising exec surrounded by all whites, and the stereotyping he has to overcome from his co-workers. It's a VERY funny show yet VERY smart at the same time. A lot of hilarious social commentary. I think you'd like it.

We actually need MORE shows like Blackish, and less shows like Empire.

Doesn't hurt that it co-stars Tracee Ellis Ross, whose ass I often fantasize eating.

Why aren't you checking out Luke Cage? +90% of the characters are black in this black superhero show. Plus there are a couple of hot black women in the series aswell.

You can watch them simultaniously. They are in the same universe. One is in Hell's Kitchen, the other is in Harlem.

I just finished watching Jessica Jones. It's a girls show like Pretty Little Liars except every 20 minutes Veronica Marz lifts someone off the ground by their collar and makes them point her to the next scene. I watched most episodes out of the corner of my eye looking more interesting stuff on my phone. The Purple Man was cool tho.

I actually find Jessica Jones my least favorite too, but she supposedly is going to have a big role in the Defenders so i figure let me know a bit about her.

Why bother watching it at all than? I can't be arsed to watch any of these comic book shows and that is including the fact I watched and enjoyed the first episode of Luke Cage.

Also after reading Anthony's review of Moonlight I think I'm going to skip that too. I enjoyed Empire but since the significant other stopped watching I guess I don't enjoy it enough to continue it. I have to check out Blackish at some point.

While inferior to 'Daredevil' IMO 'Jessica Jones' was more watchable and better written than 'Luke Cage' which I am forcing myself to watch as I lost interest after two episodes. I watched the whole season of 'JJ' in a couple of days while I still am struggling to continue watching one 'Luke Cage' episode per every other week.
