Exactly. And after he wins he'll be asked who he wants fight next if he doesn't retire. He'll say he wants rematches with Canelo or Pacquiao if Floyd remains retired.

Cotto chose Kirkland simply because Kirkland said before the Canelo fight, "I wanna be so close to him, it's gonna feel like we're fucking."

In other words this one is going to last a lot longer than the typical Kirkland fight. Everyone bet the over.

I hate watching old guys fight. Once a fighter gets a certain age or point in his career there's just something about it where I can't comfortably enjoy watching them anymore. Pacquiao has already hit that point for me as well. I may watch this but I ain't anticipating it whatsoever.

Because it's meaningless at this point. Sure it will probably be entertaining but the result is irrelevant. This is the kind of fight that should be an undercard, not a main event.

Undercard?...Cotto is not an undercard fighter unless it's for Mayweather or Pacquiao...I could understand people bitching if there were a TON of meaningful fights out there and COTTO is taking the HBO/SHOWTIME date from one of them...but there is NOBODY out there...n the few good fighters/fights don't want to fight EACH other any time soon..

    REED Doesn't Get it Either...

Should Be a Fun, Entertaining Fight...And Cotto is JUST Vulnerable Enough (and the SMALLER Man) Where the Result ISN'T a Foregone Conclusion...

    I can't co-sign this.

Make no mistake, this IS a foregone conclusion.

Kirkland's a bum. Cotto would have to be shot beyond belief to lose. Miggy has definitely seen better days, but he'll have more than enough left in the tank to slaughter Kirkland.

I'll be damned if I order this mismatch.

Given Your Prediction Track Record of Late, Team Kirkland has to Be THRILLED You're Picking Cotto...

Kirkland's Bigger, Taller, Stronger, Can Punch w/Either Hand and Cotto's ALWAYS Had Less than Stellar Stamina and Tissue Paper Skin...Kirkland will FORCE Cotto to Fight @ a Pace and Distance he Doesn't Necessarily Want to...

Cotto SHOULD Win, but it's Anything BUT a Foregone Conclusion, in REED's Opinion...

Nice try, Webber Junior, but my track record as of late hasn't really been any different than 90% of the forum.

Hasn't exactly been room to make a lot of bold predictions anyway. 2016 was a TERRIBLE boxing year.

Exactly. He hasn't won a fight since beating that scrub Glen Tapia, and that was ages ago.

For one, in Cotto's last fight he lost a decision in a competitive fight.

In Kirkland's last fight, he was damn near killed.

Kirkland is also a guy who DEPENDS on activity more than Cotto does, because unlike Miggy, he has no skill or talent to fall back on. His style always been about pure aggression, and it was a more effective style when he was in his 20s and active.

Let's be real real.... Kirkland hasn't had an impressive performance in 6 years.

The Kirkland that beat Angulo, yes, you could make a legit argument for that Kirkland beating a faded Cotto.

But that Kirkland is LOOOOONNNGGGGG gone.

    disagREED...

BECAUSE Skill and Talent AREN'T Part of his Approach, a Layoff will Affect Kirkland LESS than it Would Cotto...Kirkland's NOT about Timing, Science or Nuance; he Shows Up in Shape and Tries to Force a DOGFIGHT, Period...

Down Time is Actually GOOD for a Guy that Fights as HARD as Kirkland Does and the Asswhipping Canelo Administered on Him Warranted a Lengthy Spell on the Shelf...

Under No Circumstance is REED Predicting a Victory for Kirkland, but he's Gonna Be a TOUGHER Out than Some of Ya'll Think...Cotto will "Feel" Him for Sure, Win, Lose or Draw...

    here's a question:

why does kirkland keep getting tv dates?

who did he ever beat? who has he beaten lately? what's a competitive fight he has been in lately?

Exactly!Cotto is not fighting an Alfredo Angulo corpse for crying out loud. Kirkman has the potential of upsetting old man Cotto at this stage. Plus this might be Cotto's last fight so it is a better rival for a farewell fight than facing...Andre Berto.
