That Ali standing over Liston is the most iconic and famous image in sport's history?

I can't think of any other that even comes close.

More iconic than this one? I think not...

Jokes. I agree, Ali standing over Liston is without compare, in boxing at least....perhaps all sports.

In boxing at least, the SECOND most iconic photo is probably Tyson standing over Spinks.

I think that moment after Ali landed that last 1-2 combo on Foreman and he's just watching him go down, fists cocked but he doesn't throw another punch...

For me, quite an iconic moment.

    Depends on the Criteria...

Is the Underwater Pic of Ali Throwing Punches a "Sports Image"???...What about the Pic of Ali and Wilt???...Or Ali, Jim Brown, Bill Russell, Kareem Abdul Jabbar and Others, @ the Same Press Conference???...

Depending on the Criteria, Ali Could Have 5-10 of the More Iconic "Sports Images" Ever...

Excluding Ali, and Relating to Boxing Exclusively, Marciano Connecting w/Jersey Joe Walcott's Jaw is Up There for Sure...

Good call on these. Arguably equivalent with the Ali Liston one.

In terms of other sports the Brazil football (soccer) team of 1970 hoisting the World Cup with Pele in the centre of the pic is up there as an iconic pic

In boxing however it is clear that Ali OWNS most of the most famous images.

    Johnson-Willard is up there.

From all sports, I'd say Mexico '68 and black power

Ali does indeed have a plethora of famous photos, but standing over Liston has got be the one most recognizable to casual sports fans.

People who don't even watch SPORTS let alone boxing, even they know the standing over Liston image.

    Good call.

By the way...Xplosive's knowledge of sports doesn't extend beyond Boxing, Basketball, American Football and baseball. He's as ignorant as they come. He thinks basketball players are more famous around the world than top Soccer players. Waste of time having a logical discussion with him on anything global.

You don't see me posting of any soccer forums, do you?

You post on a boxing forum and know nothing about boxing.

Oh and btw, stop lying about the shit I say. I never said basketball players in general are more globally famous than soccer players. I said that MICHAEL JORDAN is one of the most globally famous athletes in history, which is 100% accurate.

Make no mistake though, basketball is a global sport... which means its biggest stars ARE known world wide.

Now, American football... THAT'S a different story. Nobody outside of the US knows who the fuck any NFL stars are, because it's not a global sport.

This is a good topic, which is unusual for you, so I don't want it to degenerate into smacktalk. I will say this though: Being a fan of Floyd and/or of modern fighters doesn't mean that a person doesn't know boxing. That's an ignorant viewpoint.

Willie Mays "the catch" has to be up there. Lou Gehrigs speech photo? Jordans '98 buzzer beater shot?

Jordans' 98 game winning shot image is famous and iconic, but it doesn't come close to Ali standing over Liston in terms of fame.

Would any of us even be here if we weren't fans of the modern game? Pretty sure every poster still follows all the current fighters.

Your viewpoint is ignorant because you're completely clueless about any fighters pre-80s.

If I made a Pac vs Carlos Ortiz MM, you'd pick Pac to destroy him, without having any knowledge whatsoever of old time fighters.

Same if I posted a GGG vs Dick Tiger MM. You'd say "Who is this Tiger chap? Triple G by murder."

Or what I posted a Calzaghe vs Harold Johnson MM? You'd pick Joe by destruction.

Boxers didn't learn how to fight in 1998 when Floyd turned pro.

I maintain what I've always said, you're MORE of a Floyd fan than a boxing fan. Which is totally fine, but at least admit it.

Me? I love me some Tyson, Roy, and Ali.... but I love BOXING more than any one fighter.

    Truth hurts.

Oh and.... while I am a fan of boxing in general as well as the current crop of fighters, you bet your ass that I enjoy watching 50s through 90s fighters more than today's guys.

I'm sorry if I don't find Keith Thurman as compelling to watch as Jose Napoles. And sue me for thinking that Ike Williams was better than Adrien Broner.

So let me get this right....I'm only a fan of Floyd but not of boxing and I don't know anything about boxing pre 90s. That's the charge by this resident ignorant inner city fatherless cunt.

Floyd has retired...yet I'm still posting and watching fights.
I was posting 17 years ago long before Floyd become a big star
I'm a well documented fan of Tyson, Ali, Jones, Tito, Holyfield, Lewis, Hopkins and Pacquiao among others
I've been HIGHLY involved in the discussions of every major fight over the last 15 years (99% of which did not involve Floyd mayweather)
Well documented that I'm full of praise for, but not limited to....Louis, Chavez, Pacquiao, Jones, Hopkins, Leonard, Hearns, Robinson
I've commented extensively on fights such as pryor Arguello, Hagler hearns, Ali- Williams/Liston/Frazier/Norton, Patterson Ingo, Louis Walcott, Dempsey Firpo, Dempsey tunney, Marciano-Walcott

You know what...I'm wasting my time even adding more...when you are dealing with a retard, you are being as retarded as him if you're trying to reason with him.

I feel sorry for guys that don't know their fathers, I really do, but they carry so much baggage that you can't even discuss anything logical with them.

Thanks for the black American stereotype Uncle Tom, but I actually know my father quite well.

Being the Uncle Tom that you are, do you also believe that I have a criminal record? You might be surprised to learn that I don't.

    Try again, Seabiscuit.
