The Underlying Legacy for Roy is MISmanagement...

He was MicroManaged, Belittled and All but SLAVED by Roy Sr. 1nce Roy Sought and Received INDEPENDENCE, He Practiced and Preached it to a Fault...

This Fight is Obviously a JOKE, but you Could Say That about the Last DECADE of his Career...The WORST Part is, Roy Cannot Be Reasoned With...Getting Stretched for the 4th, 5th (6th?) Time Would Signal to MOST Fighters That it's Time to Do Something Different...Not Roy Jones...

CHEESY Ass Gimmicks, Like Fighting an Unfefeated Bare Knuckler, or Donning a Pirate Suit and Calling Yourself "Captain Hook" Would Seem like PISS POOR Ideas to Most Future 1st Ballot Hall of Famers Still Entering the Ring 15 Years PAST their Prime...

    Not Roy Jones...

If Anyone NEEDED Guidance, it's Roy Jones...But the Way his Ol' Man "Guided" Him, Fucked Roy Up to the Point he Heeds NO Advice, Even When it Benefits Him...

What's REALLY sad is, Roy's washed up years have officially lasted longer than his prime years. Which is depressing considering he had a pretty long prime.

The last time Roy was his VINTAGE self (the Hall fight).... Bill fuckin Clinton was still President!

Meaning Roy was shot for the MAJORITY of the Bush administration, through the ENTIRETY of the Obama years, and is STILL fighting into the Trump years.

    Retire Roy!!!

Good point, that is crazy. At this point I'd say retiring serves no purpose. Keep fightin' Roy!

Any hope of leaving some of the legacy 'intact' has long gone. The consensus was to retire after the Johnson KO..

I don't think his legacy has slipped that much since the Johnson fight. The last chapter of his career told us that he had relied too much on his phenomenal natural gifts and had little to fall back on once they had slipped. Everything since more reflects his stubbornness, financial woes, and how he doesn't seem to be the sharpest anyhow

Roy has damaged his legacy by any objective measure. Still an ATG....but if he had retired after Ruiz it would have been between him and Ray Robinson. Sad thing is this: not just that he's been bounced up and down off the canvas like a basketball, he's proven that he has no heart.

I don't think he's damaging his legacy one bit, just his brain.

You don't see MJ playing in the Russian D-League for the last ten years or some shit like that...

The contrast of his late career choices to his clear headed commentary self is amazing. Is he still doing this? I mean it has to hurt his standing there, even no? :dunno: :crying:

Getting ktfo really has nothing to do with heart at all.

Roy should've retired after Ruiz or the first Tarver fight, but getting knocked out over and over again in fights people don't even know about until weeks later isn't doing anything to his legacy.

Agreed that i dont think it hurt his legacy. The last fight that had any bearing on it was probably the calz fight

Agreed...in isolation (ktfo and the implications on heart). However...he didn't even try to win the tarver rubber match, in fact he seemed to celebrate the fact that he went the distance. He could have won that fight...there were signs, but it was obvious that he just wanted to go the distance and count that as a victory. In the fight with glen johnson, it was clear that johnson took his heart long before the KO. Against Calzaghe he was smiling all the way through the fight while the Welshman was kicking his ass. A guy that wants to win doesn't smile his way through an ass kicking. Therefore in the light of that you have to question his heart in the successive multiple ktfo losses. Every fighter gets hurt but if you don't want to take it the same punch would knock you out because of your mental state that wouldn't have knocked you out if you were willing to dig deep through the pain

He didn't adapt to the decline of his physical abilities very well but I haven't heard the arguments you're making since those fights happened. People said it in the moment in the spirit of kicking him when he was down but people don't talk about Jones lacking heart.

Jones was a phenomenon in his prime. Haven't seen anything like him before or since (including mayweather btw), but he was so good that he never had to once demonstrate heart. Even when he had a broken hand against telesco he was so much better than him that he won 12 rounds with one hand. We may never see his like again. However....once he slowed down and started to get hit...he didn't react the way Ali or Holyfield or Leonard acted when they slowed down. Leonard gritted it out against Lalonde and against Hearns 2...Holyfield and Ali against countless opponents. Roy had no grit to show when the chips were down. I'm a big fan of Jones and always have been ( of the fighter) but the proof of the pudding is in the eating

While Obviously NOT a Blood and Guts Warrior, Roy Showed MORE Heart than You're Giving Him Credit for, in the 1st Tarver Fight...

PRIOR to the Bout, they Asked Roy to Rate How he Felt on a Scale of 1-10 (Given the Extreme Amount of Muscle he Cut in Just 6 Weeks) and Roy Said "a 7"...Next Thing we Know, he's in THE Most Competitive Fight of his Life, Up to that Point...After 10 Rounds, the Fight was EVEN and Roy TOOK 11 and 12 Pretty Decisively...

After the 11th, Lamps Called it "The Most COURAGEOUS Round of Roy Jones' Career"...

    THIS...

Roy NEVER Deviated...Even Today, Nearing 50, he Fights the Way he Did in his 20's and Early 30's...Even Though the Legs, Reflexes and Athleticism are BEYOND Shot...

Not a Bad Physique for MOST 20-30 Year Old's, but for Roy Jones, it's a FLABBY, Old Man's Body...He Looks Like THAT, yet Still Fights as if he Looks Like This...

Yes, I was impressed with how he fought back to win in the first Tarver fight. However he was never seriously hurt in that fight...he was merely outhustled early on. I'm speaking specifically how he reacted once a man was consistently laying leather on him...he quit mentally.
