The only rules 1. Can't be an animal, so the shark in Jaws doesn't apply. And it can't be a non-speaking villain, so Michael Myers doesn't apply.

    Between these guys:

    Darth Vader
    Norman Bates
    Michael Corleone
    Jack Torrance
    Amon Goeth
    Anton Chigurh
    Hannibal Lecter
    Daniel Plainview
    Ledger's Joker
    Hans Gruber
    Scar: Just for Sly.

    Can only pick one.

Personally, I think I'll go with Anton Chigurh. Probably the best personification of evil ever depicted.

I think Chigurh is a good choice out of those. Pure psychopath that can't be reasoned with.

Exactly. Really warped. Wouldn't even lie to people even though it would have made his job a lot easier.

Michael Corleone is more antihero than villain. I never understand when they list him as a villain. I "villain" is the antagonist of the film. Michael Corleone was not the antagonist of either Godfather film.

Vader is the best overall in terms of impact, but in terms of most villainous/frightening? Hmm...

    Let's compare these two:

    Anton Chigurh and Amon Göth

    There's no comparison.

Chigurh was a very intimidating fella, to be sure, but in terms of pure evil you have to give it to Amon Göth...without the shadow of a doubt.

Chigurh spared that shopkeeper after the coin toss. Göth would not have. Göth knew not mercy, he was as frighteningly evil as it gets. Göth was basically getting up in the morning, stretching and playing real life "call of duty" from his rooftop balcony...while his tasty wife lay bare-breasted in bed waiting for him to return. I mean...what the fuck??

Chigurh didnt spare the shopkeepers life. The coin did. I dont even think Goth thought what he was doing was wrong. that being said, i dont think true life characters should count in this list.

My choice would probably be between

    Robert Deniro (cape fear)
    Kevin Spacey (Seven)
    Christoph Waltz (Inglorious Bastards)

I agree with the true life characters shouldn't count....but that wasn't the original rule of the thread. As for the rest of your post it's bullshit. Chigurh had a choice: to agree with the coin or not. He chose to respect the outcome of the coin. A heartless man like Göth wouldn't have. Also Göth not even realizing that what he was doing was wrong actually emphasizes the evil. He didn't value those people as humans.

Waltz for sure out of those three. Great villain.

John Doe is memorable too of course. Deniro in Cape Fear was somewhat sympathetic IMO...

    Well...I said "somewhat"......

I didn't HATE him like I've hated other villains. I somewhat sympathized with his twisted logic in that he wanted revenge against his lawyer for burying evidence that would have helped him. Of Course Cady was a sick twisted evil son of a bitch but his motivations for revenge, I get. It's the principle of the thing.

Whereas some villains are just evil motherfuckers with no motive other than just the joy of killing and harming.

What is great about that video is how easily Chigurh made me look at the shopkeeper in a negative light.

Either way you look at it he spared his life. Sure...the guys life shouldn't have been on the line in the first place, but the fact is Chigurh let a coin decide his fate and spared him. Göth would have just killed him there and then, then took some Juicy Fruit of the shelf, popped some into his mouth, chewed and enjoyed the flavour without even thinking about what he just did.

From what I recall...it was all part of his plan to get to the attorney. By the way...I'm not saying Cady was some Church Deacon or anything. he was an evil cunt. But for reasons given...I'd put other guys ahead of him in the evil department.

Goeth was evil, but he was also a soldier following Hilter's directives. His character was meant to embody the larger evil of the Nazi empire.

Goeth wouldn't have laid a finger on that shopkeeper unless he was a jew brought into a camp.

Chigurth on the other hand, simply personified evil in general. He had no allegiances, followed no rules, and was willing to murder at random regardless of race or gender simply based on coin tosses.

Unless the setting is Nazi Germany, Chigurth would scare the fuck outta Goeth.

If you're going to put those constraints on Goeth, then you shouldn't have even included him in your list. For the sake of the argument we'd have to assume that the shopkeeper would have been a Jew to Goeth and we also have to assume that Goeth was doing things for his own pleasure (which he was...in real life and in the film). There was no "directive" to just wake up in the morning and use innocent people for target practice for amusement.

So you're one of those employees who does the bare minimum and will only take on additional work when asked?

haha. Göth certainly deserved a raise and promotion after his year-end review. The guy undoubtedly created additional responsibilities for himself. Proactive.
