Yet another quality 70s movie. As I watching it, I could only imagine how horrible it'd be if Hollywood re-made it today.
70s movies actually took the time to tell a story, and develop the plot/characters. If Towering Inferno were remade in 2017 the fire and disaster would start within the first 5 minutes, it'd be overloaded with CGI, and you wouldn't give a shit about any of the hollow characters. Even OJ was good in this movie!! Gotta be the second best disaster movie of the 70s... the best of course, The Poseidon Adventure, which is a masterpiece. And as expected, The Poseidon Adventure remake in 2006 was an insult to the original.
I was shocked when Robert Wagner´s character died almost instantly when trying to run through the fire and save the chick hed been shagging: ´I used to run the 100 in ten-flat´ Dude as fucking so cool and heroic about it...and he got lit up in seconds: <iframe src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/RAvd1YlEEAU?ecver=1" allowfullscreen="" height="315" frameborder="0" width="560"></iframe>
Uh...too late! It was already remade on 2013... <iframe width="560" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/SBkybmHYDyM" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
I clearly stated that if it was remade by HOLLYWOOD. If Hollywood remade it today I predict that it would co-star The Rock and Chris Pratt.
I watched "Earthquake" which came out around the same time as "Towering Inferno" a few months ago. What a weird fucking movie that was. ::
I've never seen this one but I love disaster films. Dante's Peak, for example, was a great film. That Pyroclastic cloud was SERIOUS!
Not sure if serious? Dante's Peak was garbage. Volcano was actually more watchable, although even more ridiculous, because of the charisma of Tommy Lee Jones.
It's not bad. Great by modern disaster film standards. Not a patch on the thread starter or The Posiedon Adventure. MTF
Me too, I've seen it several times, and although many will disagree with me I also have a soft spot for the movie The Core. Towering Inferno just recently came on movie tv here in Japan and not having seen it since I was a kid, I rewatched the whole thing. Poseidon Adventure and The Swarm also came on recently but I didn't get around to watching those two. Actually I never saw Poseidon Adventure.
I have a soft spot for The Core also. I can't lie and claim it's a great movie, but it's a really fun to watch bad movie. As for Poseidon Adventure, you really need to watch it. It's the best disaster movie by far imo. Boosted by the fact that no other disaster movie has a lead acting performance as good as Gene Hackman's.
