Every day on social media I see more-and-more tards claiming that McGregor will KO Floyd... they seem to have no semblance of a clue as to the difference in skill sets between MMA and boxing.

It's only gonna get worse if the fight becomes official...

Yep. The makers of this fight no doubt have it right that there are more than enough fans clueless enough to buy it. Random occurrences and/or competing events could still derail it. That is what I'm hoping for.

The main thing that will derail it is the UFC demanding more of the cut than Floyd AND McGregor will be comfortable with.

People can say what they like about how corrupt boxing is, but the fact remains - superstar fighters get PAAAIIDDD big time in boxing. They make more in one night than most NFL/NBA players make in an entire season and they make more in one night than most MMA stars will see in their entire careers.

The UFC takes the lion's share of fight earnings and leaves their fighters scraps.

But they ain't gonna pull that shit with Floyd and McGregor shouldn't allow them to pull that shit in such a lucrative fight.

I think the greed of the UFC will ultimately prevent this farce.

Yeah. But who is, "they?" In boxing, it is an extremely small percent of the total number of fighters. If you compared the median pay of boxers to other sports (especially major ones like NFL and NBA), I'm sure it would come out lower. An interesting comparison is between UFC median pay and boxing. I'm not sure which is higher.

    Well no shit!!

We shouldn't just limit it to world class fighters like Garcia. There's a SHITLOAD of fringe guys and journeyman who would KO McGregor in the ring.

They've bought into this Dana White nonsense that Mayweather is 5'3" and would get KO'd by Ronda Rousey. McGregor would look like a street fighter swinging frying pans next to a guy like Mayweather in the ring.

In all seriousness, there's a plethora of guys who we all categorize as "bums" who would wipe their asses with McGregor in the ring.

The fact that this clown is gonna make his pro debut against a top 20 all time great and people take it seriously is an insult to the intelligence of people who actually know the sport.

Perhaps people think Floyd's age and inactivity will be a factor. Still no excuse for this ignorance of course.

Is this is going to be a boxing bout or a mix martial arts vs boxing match? if it is the first, then MCGregor is dead meat. BUT if it is the second, THEN Floyd will be screaming like a girl in pain on the mat while tapping out within the first sixty seconds. I'll pay to watch that.

I'd bet any amount that the Leonard that fought Camacho would stop McGregor in the ring.

Floyd's age and inactivity would be a factor against a world class BOXER.

Not a grappler making his pro boxing debut who's not even known for having elite strike skills in MMA.

Holly Holm would be a bigger threat to Floyd than McGregor.

Along these lines, I was talking to a guy in his 20's last week. He wasn't clueless and had some insight. Then, bam, he thought Floyd wouldn't have a chance against McGregor in a boxing ring and McGregor had done very well at some Euro am level boxing tournament. I was polite, but disagreed, haha.

McGregor is the best striker in MMA, though.
    No question.

He isn´t a grappler by a long shot.

exactly, to be honest, if he was just a no name boxer, McGregor wouldn't even get near a fight with Garcia. Hell, he probably would be beaten handily by the Rod Salka of the world

It's a sad indictment on the state of the sport (if not of our society) that this side show would be the biggest boxing match of the year, by far.

He's one of the best, but I doubt the MMA world would call him no question the #1 striker. Personally, I like Michael Page, but there are tons of guys whose striking is superb. Wonderboy is another candidate.

    In for a quick nibble.
I'd trust on the day of this event that Ireland suspends standing orders to wish Connor McGregor the best. Truly a rags to riches success story.

Okay when I said 'striker' I was referring to McGregor's punching because that's what's relevant here.
Plus he's accurate and powerful from 145-170lb

Page and Thompson are both kick-boxers of which that aspect of 'striking' you're referring to.

Which is why 170lb Nate Diaz got dropped three times by a guy who usually fight at 20lb lower.
So, yeah, McGregor is the elite puncher in UFC.
