The original IT has to be the most overrated horror movie ever. It's considered a horror classic, but I dunno why. It's shit.

This version might actually turn out to be better.... or... it could be even MORE shitty.

I couldn't watch the whole mini-series 'IT' because I found it boring and stupid, but I know it scared many kids mainly because of the clown.

Xplosive and Panchy hit the nail on the head...

At the time, one of my friends was also massive King afficiandao...thought IT was the Holy Grail (more the book, tbh)

But yeah, Tim Curry as ´Pennywise´ the symbolic clown - I mean, I never got the clowns-are-scary-as-fuck aspect that a lot of people get into (apparantly its a phobia), so thats why the TV show didnt do it for me...

IT is one of those movies that if you watch it as a kid, it'll have that deep psychological trauma because it plays into the whole creepy clown thing.

Watching it was an adult I just laugh now.

    But I'll check this out.

I watched the original IT film when I was younger and loved it and I don't have a phobia of clowns  This new film looks promising.

I for one have not one iota of interest in this film. The trailer doesn't look scary at all. In fact it looks lame as hell.

Panchy - what do you think to screen-adaptations of Stephen King novels, generally?

Most of them have not been faithful. I liked the original Carrie and Misery was disturbing, but the rest have been so-so hit-and-misses. I particularly didn't cared much about the overrated The Shining and give more kudos to The Mist.

This looks 100x better than the original...this one seems to just concentrate on them as kids...so hopefully we get to see all the kids first encounter with IT...

    ´Salem´s Lot I enjoyed....The Dead Zone was cool as a short-story-made-into-a-movie...
The 1980s was where it started to go wrong: Firestarter, Cujo, Christine: pretty good novels but hated the movies....

IT and Salem's Lot are my favorite King books from the ones I have read...

My favorite movie adaptations.....The Mist, The Shawshank Redemption, Salem's Lot(TNT mini series I think), Storm Of The Century, and The Stand(haven't read the book)....

I liked all those ones back in the day and have seen them several times. Also the mostly forgotten Maximum Overdrive. I liked that one as a kid too but I'm sure it hasn't aged well.

This might get the audience that gravitated toward Stranger Things, but then again, that wasn´t rated ´R´

Also, its a very unknown cast and it´s the first-part IT: Part One - The Loser´s Club

I cant see this movie making that much money, tbh....a Curate´s egg, at best.

Needful Things was my favorite King book. Probably followed by The Dark Half.

Went to go see it last night. It wasn't close to a perfect movie or original in any way, but I enjoyed it. It was good for what it was. I'd read the book and seen the mini-series decades ago, so none of it was really fresh in my mind.

Like a lot of similar Steven King themes, it was scary in the way childhood is scary. Everything is a metaphor for something else. "It" is essentially "Stand By Me", with a killer, metaphorically demonic clown inserted into the story line.

I liked it, but "Stranger Things" does cover nearly the exact same kind of dynamic (Steven King meets Steven Spielberg 80's kitsch), in a much more compelling way to me.

    7.5/10

Just finished watching the new movie and I really, really liked it. In fact, and I never thought I'd say this, I think I prefer it to the original. This version focuses more on the kids and you get to see their first encounters with the clown. Excellent choice of actors and you really feel a connection with the characters, which is want you want in a good film. It misses out a lot of detail from the book with certain characters, but you can't fit everything in and make it perfect. Definitely has that Stand by me, 80's feel to it, which was a bonus for me. Bill Skarsgård is great as Pennywise, too.

It'll be interesting to see Chapter 2 of this, but it could really flop. I mean, it's likely there will be a new cast, unless they wait until the kids are much older.

I'm not at all surprised that this version is better than the original. Contrary to popular myth... the original IT is a piece of shit movie.

Still good, imo, as I enjoyed watching it in my childhood and no matter what you say about the original version, Tim Curry is excellent as Pennywise.

Yeah, Curry's not the reason why I don't rate the original. He's the best part of the movie.

I'd blame the director, whoever it was.

Stranger Things Meets Killer Clowns From Outer Space

(Both of which are better than IT)

I think it's better than a 5 rating. You feel more of a connection with the characters in this one; their fears, which is an important element of the whole story.

I went to see it a couple of Saturday's ago and actually thought it was good. The kids are likable, characters well developed, a couple of legit funny bits (and im hard to please with cinema lolz), the horror bits were well done without being unbearably horrific. entertaining, good date movie, 7/10

I was never bullied as a kid so I can't connect with geeky or fat kids.

Maybe this is why Charlie Cairolli picked on them and their fears.
