, AFAIK, no full tape of Locche vs Cervantes exist. Only some fragmented, edited shit. Some say it was very competitive and even a bit of a robbery. Very telling that some act like they've seen the fight
I've only seen the few little fragments that exist which isn't much ... but I find zero contemporary accounts hinting at any controversy with the decision The later fight when Cervantes won is available almost in its entirety and he wins just on shear offensive output but even in that one he has a hell of a time landing on the guy
Second fight was quite competitive though Cervantes won on a bad cut Did anyone claim to have seen the first fight in this thread? I'm not seeing where?
Well in that second fight there's definitely some pretty insane defense so maybe that's what he's referring to?
I hope you're talking about the first fight. In which case, you'd be correct. I own the rematch, in it's entirety.
well, Irish post a clip of the first fight, so I assume that it was the one these 2 bozos were talking about
There's like a 2-3 min clip of the first fight on Youtube. It's the only footage I've ever seen of the fight. From all that I've heard, Locche won by dominant decision, but I guess we'll never REALLY know for sure how the fight went down. The rematch, as Cdogg said, was competitive, but Cervantes more and more took control, and yeah, it was stopped on a cut. Both Locche and Cervantes were great fighters.
I swear, some of you guys are too lazy to simply do some Youtubing. JOM, here's the full rematch. It's in 5 parts, but it looks to be all there.
, the hell you're on about. Never said the second fight didn't exist, and it's very easy to find on yt
to be honest, I'm not sure I would call Locche a great fighter. The guy is a bit of a myth. Fought mostly nobodies in argentina with friendly judges and referees, and looked not so hot in the only full clip we have of him against a great fighters. Ton of draws in argentina against bums too, which probably means he derved to lose these fights. The guy had a good defense, but his offense is beyond atrocious. Slow, wide and no power
I've also seen his fight with big punching Carlos Hernandez. His offense wasn't bad at all. He simply lacked power. He matches up favorably against some of the great junior welters... others I think he'd lose to. Cervantes I think higher of. In the mid 70s, Cervantes was as dominant a champion as any junior welter in history. Cervantes dominated DeJesus easier than Duran ever did.
I think his whole offense was atrocious. Very slow, jumpy, stiff and wide. Not to mention he had powder puff in his gloves
I think he had deceptive handspeed. Did he have the handspeed of Floyd? God no. But his countering speed was far from slow.
I'm just consistent. the guy is a proto-calzaghe, almost always fought with the protection of the home field, with a shitty style to boot. Calling either of them a legend is a disservice to the true legends of the sport.
