Inspired by the discussion on romcoms. This has to be the one of the best romance DRAMAS of all time. No exaggeration. Anybody who's ever been in a relationship can "feel" this movie, and Ryan Gosling gave an Oscar worthy performance.... his best performance, IMO. Masterpiece of a movie, 10/10.
Very good performances in a pretty good but depressing movie I'm not likely to ever watch again. It's a tough watch mainly because it is very "real" for anybody who's ever been in any kind of complicated long term relationship with their significant other.
I've watched it about five times. You're right, it's a very depressing movie to watch, but it's also so damn good and compelling, that it's highly rewatchable. Put it this way, much LESSER movies than Blue Valentine have won Best Picture. Damn crime that it wasn't even nominated.
yeah, loved this. i recommended it to a woman i worked with, who then watched it with her husband of five years; almost broke them up.
great acting by michelle williams. seem to be several excellent actresses in this generation - her, jennifer lawrence, and Amy Adams. ScarJo great too, although she's been on the scene for longer
