Just scored a devastating KO victory over Herrera, so now a fight with Ortiz or perhaps even a Spence fight is in play
i like rios so i really hope that doesnt happen. he fought in lancaster, california. not exactly a boxing hotbed. feel bad for the guy
I'm with Neil. I don't wanna see Spence-Rios. Brandon would get SERIOUSLY hurt and most likely hospitalized from the beating. Rios probably isn't even a top 25 welterweight.... no sense in seeing him get destroyed by the number 1 welter. As far as soft touches go, I'd rather see Spence vs Omar Figueroa. That fat fuck Figueroa deserves a beating.
The only fight that makes sense for Rios at this point is Provo. Both guys are way past their bests, so it should be an even matchup.
I dunno if I feel bad for Rios. He had his few years of HBO/Showtime coverage, and got a big payday against Pac. With this style, his relative lack of talent, and utter absence of defense, he was never gonna have a long shelf life. Still, I like him enough that I don't wanna see Spence beat him within an inch of his life.
I kind of doubt that. Rios' punches don't have the same effect at 147 as they did at 135-140. Khan got blasted by Canelo, but it's not like Rios has anywhere near Canelo's power. Canelo also had the handspeed to land the bomb, something Rios lacks. Currently, I think Khan would decision Rios.
If Spence's 1st Defense is in Dallas, as he Wants it to Be, Rios Wouldn't Be a Good Choice of Opponent... Not Because Rios Poses ANY Threat to Spence (he Doesn't), but Because Dallas Area Fight Fans are NOTORIOUS for Rooting for Mexican Fighters, ANY Mexican Fighter, Even Over their Hometown Guy... REED Wouldn't Want to See E.J. Getting FEWER Cheers, Returning Home with the Belt, Just Because he's Facing a (Used Up) Mexican Fighter... If Available, Lamont Peterson Would Be a Good Choice, in REED's Opinion...But If the 1st Defense Is Anywhere BUT Dallas, Rios is PERFECT... REED
I think it depends on how serious Rios is about re-building his career. His team (and him) have to realistically know he'd get killed by Spence, and that it would be a final payday. They aren't stupid. I could see a Rios vs Danny Garcia fight materializing first. Garcia is gonna need a comeback opponent. Garcia would beat Rios also, but it wouldn't be the brutal execution that Spence-Rios would be, and Rios would probably make more money against Garcia. OR... Rios could try to fight a guy like Adrian Granados. That would be a really good scrap, and it's a winnable fight for Rios if he trains. With Spence, it wouldn't matter if Rios was at his absolute peak and trained like never before... the result would still be the same.
Rios-Garcia Could Be Fun, Especially if Rios Isn't CAPPED on How Much Weight he Can Put On, Post Weigh-In... REED
Prograis fights at 140. We'll never see Rios at 140 again. 140 SHOULD HAVE been Rios' optimal weight.
Garcia or Khan are logical cash outs for him. I don't think Spence is a good ass whippin-payday ratio. If he won it would just set him up to make the same money he'd make against Khan or Garcia.
"If" isn't even a question with Spence. Rios would have LESS than a zero percent chance of beating Spence. In fact, there's a LEGITIMATE health concern for Rios if he fought Spence. Khan and Garcia are much better options. Especially Khan, because Rios would have a decent chance to win. Khan's chin prevents him from being a commanding favorite over ANY fighter who's not feather fisted. Garcia? I don't see how Rios beats Garcia, but if he showed up in top shape he could at least give a good account of himself in a losing effort. Broner is probably the best option for Rios among the big names. An in-shape Rios is definitely capable of beating Broner.
