I dunno, but if the winner is offered access to a year's supply of coke, this would be one helluva war.
Absolutely. Guy was getting floored and hurt by non punchers at 175. I don't think he would handle Tarver power well. Not to mention that Tarver jab would land consistently
I'd take Calzaghe via UD. It would be an ugly fight. But unless Milk Dud can land a miracle shot, I like Calzaghe to tap dance on him and slap him around.
FFS they both got floored by the same guy at 175 and to be honest neither of them were hurt. The other knockdown Calzaghe suffered was a freak forearm smash.
So what. TRver faced numerius vuys at 175 and showed he had a good chin and that the bhop 'kd' (i dont think his gloves touched the ground) was a fluke, and he also was a lot less hurt. Jc was on his ass in his only 2 fights at 175. Hard to just put it to flukes
They were all legit knockdowns, he was hurt against Roy but he looked fine to me against Hopkins, it was a good shot followed by a shove (not intentional, Hopkins momentum carried him forward). Calzaghe was back on his feet in seconds.
I think Joe outworks him and wins a decision. Tarver could turn things around with a big left hand, but I think Joe’s edge in stamina/workrate would be the difference.
Calzaghe was past his prime when he moved up to 175 and didn't do enough for him to be properly gauged at the weight IMO. I'm not saying he couldn't beat Tarver, but I don't think he proved enough at the weight for him to be favored over, at the very least, the biggest puncher he'd ever fought there.
Tarver wasn't some ridiculous puncher like he's made out to be. The guys only KOs of note are an old Jones and Eric Harding. Neither known for durability, and both having beaten him previously. He failed to stop Woods and Griffin, whereas Jones didn't. Tarver was dropped by Reggie Johnson, the only one dropped when Reggie fought Roy was Johnson. Tarver never KOd anybody as durable as Hill IMO.
I don't see why his power woulda declined drastically, it is always the last thing to go and he showed he could still throw a mean ass punch vs Lebedev later on.
I disagree on the latter, Harding was generally credited for his durability after lasting 10 rounds with Jones without being dropped, and nobody else ever bombed out Harding the way Tarver did.
