2007-2008 Cotto version. Pre-Margarito. I think Spence beats Miguel. Breaks him down. But it's competitive. Spence is hittable. But I think he's able to take it and dish it back, causing Cotto to eventually wilt in the late rounds. Only difference is, Spence wouldn't need plaster.
Mig would have to seriously hurt Spence and keep him honest. If not, yes Spence gradually beats him up.
Cotto is a much better fighter than Brook, so this is a tall order for spence. Still, I think styles plays in his favor.
This is true, but Brook does have two advantages over Cotto: 1. He's taller and rangier 2. He's got a better right hand. It doesn't help Cotto that he's a midget with alligator arms, and he's not the most mobile guy. More than anything, this fight comes down to Spence's chin. If he can handle Cotto's left hook, he'd win. I really don't think as highly of Cotto as some. And one thing we know for a FACT is, Spence has better stamina than Cotto ever had. Cotto beats Thurman and Garcia, though.
In truth, we'll never really know. On one hand, it looks very ugly what came out, but playing devil's advocate... Could it be that Team Margarito for years having boxed in professional commissions that exist in the US could have gotten away with foul play for years???... Hand wrap issue aside, against Cotto, Margarito did fight a very good fight with his pressure, body punching, and ability to cut the ring off... The hand wrap controversy won't go away, though.
No, I don't think he used plaster against Cotto. There's your answer. He hit Cotto with like a thousand uppercuts before he busted him up. It wasn't plaster.... it was Miggy's shit defense and suspect stamina that got exposed.
Yeah, the problem against Marg looked more like how Cotto couldn't back him up or pause him with his punches and how that made Cotto choose to hop and skip his chunky little ass around the ring.
Funny. I think hopping and skipping around the ring, unwilling to stand your ground and trade, is exactly what a fighter does when he is outgunned by say, plaster.
If you like. But Cotto always did that little scoot and shuffle thing. It never really sets anything up and looks like it wastes a lot of stamina for a guy of his build. And Marg couldn't put plaster in his chin or body and Cotto couldn't phase him.
As corrupt as boxing is, it's still VERY UNLIKELY that Marg snuck fuckin plaster of paris past EVERY commission for years on end. And if he DID, then we have an even bigger problem than Marg, cause it means a lot MORE guys have plaster in their gloves. There were rumors that Marg didn't train nearly as hard for Mosley as he did for Cotto. Maybe his team knowing he wasn't in peak shape thought he needed an extra advantage.
REED Has Little Doubt Margarita Used Plaster (or Tried To, @ Least) in Both Instances... Cotto was THE Biggest Fight of Margarito's Career and the Mosley Bout was Thought of as a Victory Lap... Let's Not Forget, Mosley SQUEAKED By Mayorga, Needing a Late, Come-from-Behind KO...Shane Then RESURRECTED His Career via Margarito, and Landed the Floyd Fight Afterwards, but Make NO Mistake, he was Seen as Being On his Way OUT Prior to Margarita... In Terms of Who Was PERCEIVED as the Bigger Threat Going In, the CLEAR Answer is Cotto...So WHY Would Margarito TRY to Use Illegal Wraps Against a Guy He was SUPPOSED to Beat, Yet NOT Wear Them in the Biggest, Most IMPORTANT Bout of his Life???...
