Not everyone does everything text book, we all know that.

Two names that pop up in my mind are Joe Calzaghe and Vitali Klitschko. Both guys did weird things as far as technique goes, but were very effective.

Hamed is another but his prime was very short.

    Whom else?

You've already mentioned Calzaghe and Naz (who was the weirdest I've seen), I'd put Froch on there.

What I like about Froch is that despite not being great athletically, through pure will and yes and underrated skill ring IQ, was a very effective fighter. Good puncher too.

    Roy deserves a mention.

Ali as well. Prior to him, no other heavyweight could punch and move like him. It was almost like a welterweight in a heavyweight's body.

Fury has an ugly style and his act gets annoying, but he's one guy who is hard to fight due to what he does in there.

Even AJ alluded to it in a recent interview:

“He’s not like the champions we know of. He’s a different animal, a different breed. 6 foot 9, rangy, so I think the way to beat Tyson Fury is like a Mike Tyson style. But you need a lot of energy and you need to be fit and strong. Cause if not, he’s going to play with you,” explained ‘AJ’.

He definitely has an underrated ring IQ, a guy with such an obvious deficit in athletic ability would not have had the career he had otherwise.

Irish made a really good point after the second Kessler fight, Froch finds something that works and he will just keep doing it until the opponent figures it out and then he will abandon it completely and try something different, for example the jab was working for a few rounds against Kessler, then he started getting countered so he never bothered trying to jab again and started targeting the body instead. I wouldn't class it as 'adaptability' in the same sense as a guy like Mayweather who spots mistakes the opponent makes and will adjust accordingly, but it's still smart.

    Quartey? A straight up jab/cross/hook boxer-puncher?

Yes. Watch the guy. His technique looks like he has cereberal palsy.

I'd describe that more as "stiff" than awkward but I see what you are getting at

Wasn't just stiff though. Anything but his jab was slappy and sloppy , and even his jans at times seemed uncoordinated.

Awkward to me would indicate an unorthodox, odd strategy or style ... I doubt Quartey was trying to look that way

Says awkward styles in the title. You thinks m. Spinks intentionally fought like a spaz?

Right ... Quartey's style was essentially traditional though

Quartey was basic to me. But he was effective with it. High guard, jab, right hand, occasional left hook. Strong guy with above average hand speed. He was somewhat sloppy with his right hand, I agree. At times slapping with it. But he didn't always slap with it. I'd call him basic before awkward.

Sergio Martinez was awkward, though extremely flawed defensively. He got away with the things he did due to his athleticism but once that faded and injuries came along, he was virtually useless.

    Could Pacquiao fit the criteria?

    Right now, Wilder.
