exactly, proving that you can beat some elite oppostions is much more important than blowing up some no hopers in style

Of course but almost every great fighter in history has went through periods of bum beating as there can only be so much talent around at one time, especially when confined to one weight class. It makes it all the more difficult with today's politics of promoters not willing to work together.

I think it depends on how it goes down. If it's convincing win without controversy or something shitty happening like a bad cut due to a headbutt then yes.

Absolutely agreed, you can't really be there if you've only fought bums.

But the point is, it's not a resumé competition. What you did 5 years ago has no real bearing on a P4P list. It's really just how good you are right now, as it's a who beats who list.

But obviously to earn a spot there, you need to have at least beaten one legit fighter recently - so Spence is a perfect example of a guy who is now deserving of a place on the P4P list.

Yeah 5 years is a bit much, but if a guy hasn't fought anybody elite in a long time but also hasn't shown signs of slipping past wins can still be relevant.

In that scenario I'd have to agree. If there are no signs of slippage at all, then beating an elite fighter a few years ago would obviously be valid in gauging a fighter's worth.
