At 147, 154, and 160. Does it make a difference. I think the best fight is probably at 154, but as big a Tito fan as I am, I just think about how Tommy starts so fast. Right outta the gates. And Tito tends to take his time. Hearns in his rhythm is damn near unstoppable. Trinidad is live and if he lands his counter left hook enough times, anything can happen. But my gut says Hearns gets him outta there more often than not. I say Hearns KO 6.
Not really. Both had virtually the exact same peak/prime range at each weight. Both were awesome at 147, but in reality, both were at their true peaks at 154. Both were very good at 160, but it wasn't their peak weights. Hearns was simply the better fighter and would win by stoppage at every weight.
I give Tito his best shot at 147 where Hearns was more arrogant and less experienced. Trinidad would seem like the one who's vulnerable early but I think Hearns coming out smoking is Tito's best chance considering the styles mismatch.
I concur with Terp that Tito's best shot is 147. Tito was comfortable at 147 for years, whereas Hearns probably NEVER should have fought at 147. At 154, Tommy filled out and was at his best. I can't forget Tito struggling with David Reid's handspeed and right hand for 6 rounds. Tommy smokes him at 154.
I agree with Terp that Hearns coming out for the KO enables Trinidad's chances but that's a lot of firepower for anybody to take and deliver their own punches. I think Tommy would recognize the danger Tito brings and would establish his height and reach, jab, and ultimately, the correct distance for that right hand. How much Tito could take goes a long way in determining his chances.
Hearns could very well mismatch Tito at any of these weights. Problem with hearns though was that he was in love with his power and was vulnerable in terms of chin. Bad combination against a guy like Tito. In 10 fights, Trinidad knocks him the fuck out 3 times and hearns dominates him the other 7
I think Tommy stops him in 6. Obviously Tito is a live underdog with his power and finishing skills, but I think Hearns would land his jab and straight right too often.
