Hughes has rarely been in a boring fight. On top of that, in all of his 13 UFC championship fights, only 1 has gone to a decision. Matt always looked to finish. The flip side is that Matt has been finished 8 times in his career. So there might be something to GSP's tactic. Regardless, Matt should really shut up. After getting starched in mere seconds against BJ Penn his last time out, he really shouldn't be running anyone down.
When we talk about gsp, we used words like effective, efficient, solid etc. I guess matt has a point to a certain degree, however gsp is an all round mms expert. The guy totally dominates his division - so much so they only fight I want to see is gsp v silva.
hughes is a sadist. for a hardcore christian he claims to be, he sure enjoys seeing his opponents get knocked out. does anyone remember the big smirk he put on at ringside when serra knocked gsp out? it's nebulous to me considering gps showed respect both times he fought hughes (first and second).
Hughes' fight with Sherk was the ultimate cure for insomnia way back in the day. In fact, his exciting fights are the ones where he gets nuked.
Give me an example. Sherk was already mentioned and I don't disagree. I also think the recent fight with Serra was dismal. That being said, Hughes occupies 5 fights in the Top 100 UFC fights in history according to fans. But I'd still like to know the ones you think were boring. Just curious.
I just looked through and couldnt really find any. And the fights i wasent a fan of werent really too bad. And for the time, i was impressed to see hughes dominate sherk like he did, so even that wasn't too bad to me.
I agree. The Sherk fight wasn't boring. It just wasn't as fun as some other fights Hughes was in. Like I said, the recent Serra bout is the only really boring fight I can recall.
I was never a fan of Hughes. But to call him boring is quite unrealistic. He would definitely be considered a finisher. The only thing I ever really banged on Hughes about was I thought he won the belt on a lucky call. I still believe he was asleep when he slammed Carlos Newton. You can totally tell he had no idea what had even happened. It should have been a double KO and the belt stayed with Newton.
