Inspired by the previous thread. What are some of yalls memories of the time when Roy dominated the spotlight on here? Beyond the obvious, which is we had hundreds of posters, instead of the 10-20 we have now lol.

I certainly remember how polarizing a time it was. I would say 45% of the forum hated Roy's guts, 45% worshipped him, and only 10% were impartial. That's only Fightbeat/SecondsOut. On BoxingFanatics, it was 85% Roy haters, 10% Roy groupies, 5% impartial.

    Other memories?

Always liked the Brannon KO, for some reason too it always brings me back to the opening titles of Transworld Sport from the 90s.

While not his best opponent, but for pure entertainment, I love the Hall fight.

For single-moment excellence - the KD on Reggie Johnson was just absurd. Far and away the fastest combo in boxing history. Problem is, after that KD, Roy carried Reggie the rest of the fight. He coulda easily gotten him out of there if he really put his foot on the gas, but after that third round he felt he made his point, and he just coasted the next 9 rounds.

The Merqui Sosa fight at super middleweight. Not particularly memorable as a contest but the way he landed the punch that put Sosa down just stays in my head. I was at university at the time and watching boxing back then was a lot trickier to do so any time you got to see a top notch fighter it was a treat. By that point Jones was by far and away the best fighter in the sport.

Larry Merchant summed it up well after the Brannon fight. He said something like, "We can be critical of his competition, but tonight we saw what we saw. There's no one else who can do this."
