Name it. I'd say it's either the shower scene in Psycho or Jack Torrance cutting through the door with the axe, aka the "Here's Johnny" scene.
I'd go with the shower scene though. I mean, you can argue that's single most famous scene in movie history.
For its time, utterly shocking, ground-breaking and still effective today. And, the manner in which it was filmed...
Janet Leigh's scream face in that shower scene is definitely one of the most famous images in the history of film.
Shaw played that role so well. You could see the naked terror on his face as he was sliding down the boat to the jaws of death.
Funny thing is that during that monologue (which should be added to the monologue thread, incidentally) ...Quint recalls that that was the time in his life that he was the most terrified....little did he know that the next day, his experience would trump that one.
"Those black eyes roll over white" "I'll never put on a life jacket again" Chilling. Delivered so damn well.
