I don't think its gonna break 1 mil, and it should be seen as a huge success if it does. I'm thinking 850k.
I don't understand what is good or bad when it comes to PPV buys. What did May-McG do? I can gauge it by that.
It has to be over a million, surely. I'm thinking around 1.5. But it is a real fucking shame that this fight, the biggest fight of Golovkin's career, has been overshadowed by Floyd's heist. I hope that doesn't affect PPV sales too much. To look on the optimistic side - perhaps it's got people in a fight mood ;)
According to Fat Dan, it's gonna come short of breaking the record set by May-Pac. Sorry, cage fighting fans.
I think yall are overrating GGG's star power. Or HOPEFULLY, I'm underrating it. I think it'll do less than Canelo-Cotto, or around the same. Canelo-Cotto did 900k. Let's not forget, this is a MUCH MUCH bigger fight than Canelo-Cotto for US! But for casual fans, it's probably the same level.
I remember when Tyson-Golota screwed up the Lewis-Tua numbers because they were weeks apart from each other. I'm guessing this does about 1.1 million when it should have done like 1.5 million
1.5 million...behind the buying power of mexican boxing fans...and boxing fan in general.....a huge drop of from casual no nothing fans...won't see this one go over 2 million.
It'll do 1/3 of Mayweather-McGregor numbers...is my prediction. These guys are just not famous enough.
If it generates 1.5 mil, it means it was a huge success amongst casuals. I really don't think it's gonna do the numbers you guys expect. 850-950k sounds a lot more realistic than 1.5 M. Three things are gonna prevent this fight from hitting 1.5 mil: 1. Tax evader who can't read vs. Irish bum 2. The fact that neither speaks English. 3. The fact that neither one talks trash.
Until I just checked, I hadn't even realized that Canelo-Chavez did a mil. Or maybe I just forgot. I had no idea it sold that much. With this in mind, May-McGregor is probably THE ONLY thing holding this back from a million, cause Golovkin is definitely a bigger name/draw than Chumpez.
Absolutely true...the later two though have more impact on this than the first IMO. I think that if either guy was a "character" and spoke English, the Mayweather-McGregor fight would help and not hurt.
Yes, we can agree with that. If both spoke English and there was legitimate bad blood between them with trash talk involved, it'd probably break 2 mil. But both guys are soft spoken by nature, and there's no bad blood between them. Hence, the fight is 100% dependent upon substance... and the substance of this fight is very high... but sadly, causals prefer a circus to substance.
I guess I just never paid attention to the numbers when they came out. Kinda shocked that it sold more PPV's than Canel0-Cotto, but, it did.
Much as I don't think it'll happen, IF Canelo truly wins this fight in spectacular fashion... he becomes the biggest draw in combat sports over McFeather.
I knew it did a million, which is exactly why I'm thinking 1.5 for this. It has to do better than Canelo Vs a fucking punching bag, surely.
Yeah but the Mexican/Mexican rivalry is what did it. What is the rivalry here? In fact, im pretty sure these two have fucked at one point.
To be fair, this fight has gotta a helluva lot more mainstream coverage than Canelo-Chavez. And although Golovkin isn't some Tyson level star, he's a lot more known to mainstreamers than Chumpez Junior. Therefore, May-McGregor is the only obstacle in the way of this breaking a mil. And I think it's big enough obstacle.
haha Yeah they seem too cordial at times. Still there's tension bubbling up under the surface and us hard core fans can sense it. I agree with the Mexican/Mexican rivalry which sold the first fight...contemporary Mexican star vs the son of the ultimate Mexican legend. I can see why that drew in some big numbers.
#1 is irrelevant #2 and #3 totally correct #4 No-one really cares much these days unless it's a 'freak show' or gets massive marketing and as Anthony said, it hasn't been marketed whatsoever except some lame joke-clip
