Kind of a sad ending, a sucker punch.

 

It wiz a cracker o' a game, mind, and it wiz gonnae be a bitter pill whoever won it (if Ah may be so sulky tae say).

New Zealand have been consistently the best team fer the last foor years since they won the last one. Oz ran 'em close and it wiz a fabby final.

The sucker punch is gutting but Oz did it tae NZ waaaay back in the semi in '03 when one o' ma favourite players, Mortlock (big Aussie centre), intercepted and ran it in from virtually the other end o' the pitch.

I think Dan Carter {New Zealand Out Half............. :: } proper nailed it with that drop goal....a massive left-footed effort in the pocket to restore a 7 point gap at a critical time. Like Larry Holmes uppercut vs Mike Weaver, just when Old Weaver looked like he might be taking over.

Just as Holmes didn't KO Weaver with that shot, Carter didn't end the game, but he restored the NZ balance and dug them out of a bit of a hole.

Its something to be chasing a 4 point gap, its a bit different to be chasing 7, NZ knew an Ozzie try would not be fatal.

A few minutes later he nailed his longest penno of the tournament, and that was drapes.

If they had been the last scores, it would have been a fine way to end it, but the sucker punch sort of distorted it for me.
