I don't know anybody who actually waits for them. The rituals such as ring walks and introductions are important, but to me national anthems have always seemed pointless, as individual fighters represent more themselves than a whole nation. The tradition isn't very long in boxing and I don't think it fits very well. I have no problem with anthems in team sports nor Olympics. How do you see it?
I'm with you on this, can't stand them. It's especially annoying when you're on this side of the pond and have already had to stay awake till 5am only to hear some cunt warbling on. Get on with it.
I loathe the playing of anthems at sporting events ... agree with JOM, the only place it makes sense is international events (World Cup, etc) where it's national teams competing
Agreed. I forget which fight but the dumbest one ever was when they played the Mexican anthem even though there were no Mexican nationals involved.
they are a good time to go to the rest room if you are at the actual fight. i dont get why they feel the need to play the american national anthem if there is a mexican fighting a filipino, like say morales vs pacquiao. the worst is the mexican anthem though, it seems 3 times as long as the rest
The fight is taking place in the good ole US of A, pal. The entire planet has to remember that.! Yeeee Haaa.
No they MUST remain. Don't you remember Jamie Foxx butchering the anthem before PAC v Floyd? Best laugh I'd had in ages and by far the highlight of the night.
I don’t really care that much. It’s better to do it before the ringwalks, because it’s annoying to have the suspense build up and then you have to sit thru the anthems. Sometimes Mexican-American fighters like will face a non-American, and you sit thru 3 anthems. Maybe it was Manny and the Tranny, the anthems for the Philippines, Mexico, and USA. It doesn’t bother me too much but it’s kind of like “geez, another one?”
