Wow, Doub. Ironically enough I rewatched it this week! AWESOME fucking movie! Probably the most underrated movie of the 70s.
This movie basically failed due to bring released the sane week as Star Wars and the success of that bought about the decline of the 'New Hollywood' cinema movement (which began in the late 1960s and bought about the 1970s being the Golden Era) and the beginning of the 'Low IQ Blockbuster Movie Franchise' era.
This is not far superior to Sorcerer, and they are both adaptations of the same book, not a remake actually. Both great movies, I prefer Sorcerer slightly.
Actually, Jaws is the movie that REALLY spawned Hollywood blockbusters. So without the success of Jaws, it's possible Star Wars never becomes a hit.
Possibly. Ots one aspect of movies I´ve always pondered on: Jaws or Star Wars. I picked the latter purely because it also spawned/kicked-off a massive merchandise craze. (but yeah, I know what you mean)
You have a valid point, but between JAWS (1975) and Star Wars (1977) there weren't any blockbuster hits, only average hits like 'Logan's Run' (1976). People point to STAR WARS because it opened the floodgates of big budget spectacles during the summer season, which up to that point was dominated by low budget Disney kids films and Teen movies. Also keep in mind that George Lucas The Star Wars script was rejected by every single Hollywood studio until Allan Ladd Jr, the CEO of 20th Century Fox, accepted it thinking they might get another 'Planet of the Apes' kind of hit.
The original covered more of the story, fleshed out the characters better while Sorcerer just went straight to the part of jumping into the vehicles with nitro. Yes, the newer version had better cinematography (and a bigger budget, renowned director and name stars), but while the scene on the bridge was great, there wasn't much else to it which might explain its release mixed reviews and box office disappointing numbers. I have not seen the other, but sorcerer is cool how it shows each guy's back story. I do not think Wages of Fear does that from what i have read about it (i should just watch it but haven't had a chance yet).
Panchy doesn't watch movies - he reads about them and then posts way overly-critical posts (basically it doesn't sound him) making out he's some movie-buff....
Listen idiot: I have been watching movies since I opened eyes in this (FLAT EARTH) world. My earliest memories are of being at a movie theater. As a child I spend every night watching the late night movies with my grandma while everybody else was sleeping. I have forgotten more movies than the ones you will watch in your entire existence. Even as an Elementary school student other kids will come to me asking for movie recommendations, my thoughts on certain movie or which coming up films had potential to be entertaining because they knew me as the movie guru. Heck, even in Middle school my teachers were asking me for reviews! My opinions and tastes doesn't align with everybody's, but that is not my fault.
Says the man dying to see Thor Ragdollrok, can't wait, unmissable, etc Like some dumb-cunt of a girl waiting for the next installment of Twilight.
