Dork Mocus, please, this is a Guillermo Del Toro film. This will be weird and awesome. It barely has any similarities with that horror classic.
Del Torro is a patchy filmmaker, the woman is ugly and the creature looks like the one out of HellBoy. Looks shit to me.
The same guy who plays Abe Sapien will play this character. But that doesnt mean much. Doug Jones is Del Torro's guy.
Look Tony, you don't have to post movie threads and expect everyone to like them. You can be objective and post some dodgy ones as well and not get all huffy when people piss on them.
I watched this last night totally going against my better judgement of 'Im-such-a-fuckin-know-it-all-that-I'll-hate-it'. I should of trusted my instincts. Its the Cold War and the Americans have found a mysterious 1/2-Man, 1/2-Fish creature and have it kept in top secret 'captivity' with a view to killing it so their studies can match those damn Commie bastards. Anyway, the top-secret lab's UGLY, MUTE FEMALE janitor wants to rescue the heavily-guarded man-fish with the help of the inevitable CHUBBY, FEMALE, BLACK JANITOR/MAID KNOW-IT-ALL. Also involved in this ridiculousness is her best buddy, an ARTY, OUT-OF-THE-CLOSET HOMOSEXUAL. I mean, of course!!! I was literally cringing during this entire ordeal. Seriously, there have been some unworthy movies hyped and Oscar’d before, but this one wins the fuckin jackpot. They've managed to shoe-horn every possible aspect of Political Correctness into this massive-plot-holed piece-of-shit of a movie that it's not even funny. Don't you just LOVE Hollyweird these days? Seriously, 5/10 at the absolute most.
There of (Ah mean, ‘there have’) been two films Ah’ve really been looking forward tae in the last six months, this one and ‘IT’ both o’ which Moostarda has run doon leaving me feeling as flat as a witch’s tit. Och! There’s still ‘Hereditary’ tae SEE, Ah suppose.
No by all means watch it - I just feel it's one of those typical critic darlings faves that's Oscar-bait...
I watched the first half, then my plane landed. I plan to watch the rest. Plot summary: Desscent looking mute chick ‘bates herself hard every morning in the tub. At her work in secret lab she meets fish-dude. Then plots to rescue him from getting dissected. I haven’t seen the rest, but obviously she has a thing for water, so there’s no mystery that she will be bending over for fish-dude soon enough. I look forward to finishing it.
I saw Shape of Water over a month ago. Totally forgettable and overrated movie. One of the weakest movies to ever win Best Picture. Michael Shannon was excellent, as he always is, but he was the ONLY thing quality about this film. 5/10
In one of those strange occurrences during the lifespan of the known universe, I totally agree with Dork Mocus: this PC crap was not even worthy of me writing a review...much less deserved 'Best Picture' Oscar. And to think those Academy Awards idiots left out 'The Florida Project' pisses me off even more.
Agreed with every word. If not for Birdman, I would say it's the worst movie to ever win Best Picture. Three Billboards was clearly robbed.
Saw it a few weeks ago. It was alright. Good atmosphere. Kind of weird and ridiculous. A noir with themes common to many Del Toro movies. Don't really care who wins the Oscar awards. That shit is fairly meaningless anyways.
You've got a real bug up your ass about "Birdman". I liked it a bit. Thought it was about a 100 times more watchable then "Shape Of Water".
I thought Birdman was trash, but the more I consider it.... Shape of Water might take the cake for worst ever. It's really no better than Avatar.
