His intention was to do an interview. What he got was the usual suspects doing what they do best, ruining a thread with stupidity and ignorance.

Show me where I RUINED this thread and why my post has ANYTHING to do with Diaz or would cause Diaz to bolt :nono:

He can't take criticism or have a sense of humor, bottom line. The interview has nothing to do with his issues.

why even bother asking for input if you only intend to float him softballs rather than touching on a real issue like the managerial/promotional problems he is caught in the middle of?

That's why he wasn't granted an interview. How many times can you ask the guy the same questions without scaring him off.....

I agreed that people were trying to ruin this thread.

And dude, don't try to act all innocent and shit, like you are Mr. Nice guy. The fact is you spend most of your time in TAAA so how funny is it you came to post in this topic that Karl started. I'm onto you and Godfather son, so don't play stupid.

Actually...the decision was already made...it's a dead issue.

Hell, I didn't resurrect my original question (when the story first broke) regarding how hypocritical Savannah is in light of his agreeing to a contract with Golden Boy then backing out to take the deal with King.

Isn't it hypocritical of Savannah to see fault in Shields for choosing to work with Holyfield in light of Savannah's actions of just a year ago?

I am innocent, look at the post that made him decide to not do it

I have fucked with Karl two-three times TOPS. For good reason too if you read his posts. Not that I haven't fucked with everyone else here at least more  But Godfather made me do it

BTW, I was the first one to read this thread. Godfather did NOT point me to this. This is the post that annoyed me......as you can see, nothing to do with Godfather...

    You have been corrected.

savannah has proven to be unscrupulous, but his lap dog would never dare question him on such matters.

In all seriousness, it's a tough question to ask but certainly a valid one.

I understand Savannah had Juan's best interest in mind by opting for more cash, but I can't understand why he'd have an 'all or nothing" ultimatum regarding Shields. It simply makes no sense to me.

Unless there was an underlying jealousy or other unknown factors involved, I can't figure out why Savannah would put Shields in that kind of position.

Even if Juan didn't want to discuss it, it's viable question to ask.

Some folks have made some good and reasonable points, Carlos and Eaner, thanks.
I may reconsider as I was extremely pissed that jerk was ruining my thread in a boxing only venue.
As far as asking any issues concerning managerial and promotional problems he may or may not have, Mr. Savannah's business decisions, personal issues, etc.: I don't do that.
Those types of concerns can be addressed by other sports and tv writers, and there are other websites out there for that kind of stuff, and more often than not, those folks usually have no background in the sport, not all but the large majority do not.
    I am a boxing writer.
I offer my thoughts on what happens in the ring and in the gym, that is what I am concerned with, and where part of my background is from.
I am concerned about what is going to happen in the gym and in the actual fight with Julio Diaz, the brutal training and the brutal action inside of it.
That to me is real drama, I could care less about HBO, Showtime, ESPN, Bob Arum, Golden Boy, Don King -- I write about the fighters and describe the action as I see it.
I am fond of Mr. Savannah as he is a nice man and has done a lot (without pay of any kind and never seeking publicity) for the youth of Houston.
If a kid wants to train and learn how to box and his folks cannot afford gym dues, he trains at Savannah's for free.
If a kid has not eaten and is hungry, provisions will be provided where he will get some food.
If he or she has no gym gear, they will provided with some.
If a kid is afraid to leave the security of his apartment to come into gang turf to train or lives too far fromt he gym to walk, he will be picked up safely and returned home safely in the gym van.
That is the side of Mr. Savannah you don't hear about on the internet by these tabloid writers.

forget about shields. savannah went to king because he was promised some back payment of money owed. did diaz get a part of that? the managers job is to have his fighter's best interest as the primary goal when making these career decisions

    Karl,

While I understand the good Savannah has done for kids, that still doesn't negate the Golden Boy/Don King situation.

It's great to hear he's got a big heart in helping kids, but if you're a responsible member of a gym, those are the kinds of things you do. Hell, when I coached kids, I used to buy socks for kids all the time. Why? Because it needed to be done.

Boxing is as much of a business as it is a sport and in some cases (especially the Savannah-Shields case) business comes before the sport aspect. Juan is a professional fighter. That's how he's fed. Any professional should be able to address difficult questions.

well all that sounds just peachy. but we've come to find out all this generosity has been funded by Saint Willie using one of the few fighters he manages who actually "made it" as leverage to benefit himself financially

of course not. the money being referred to surely should be attributed to savannah's managerial income, not profits from the gym. even the most daft of fightbeaters should be able to comprehend that.

I am going to miss work for a half a day and go down to Savannah's Monday morning for you folks, and I am going to get ripped about it at work, I promise you guys that.
Juan is a moody kid (just like all fighters are) this close to a fight and I'll ask him 6 or 7 BOXING questions the serious posters here submitted if he will answer them for you guys, ok?
All I can do is try.
