WBO Jr Feather weight champion Wilfredo Vazquez Jr told El Nuevo Dia that Bob Arum let his camp know that he might be in the undercard of Pacquiao vs Mosley on May 7 as the co-feature bout. Vazquez Jr will be defending his title against three time champion from Mexico Jorge "Travieso" Arce. Arce wants to make history by becoming Mexico's first 4th division champ if he wins a fourth title against the boricua. Wilfredo Vazquez Jr. will love to spoil this plan and be 'discovered' by millions of fans that will watch the Pacquiao-Mosley card. In other news... Showtime will be choosing one these five boxers to challenge Juanma Lopez in a voluntary defense on April 16: Orlando Salido, Rey ‘Boom Boom’ Bautista, Teon Kennedy, Ricardo Córdoba or Jason Litzau who recently defeated Celestino Caballero.
Loving that this fight is happening. WV2 gets long overdue recognition beyond the Telemundo/hardcore fan level, and Arce gets violently beaten one step closer towards retirement
I like(d) his fights, just don't like him. Not mention that he's been on borrowed time for quite a while.
If Arce wins he´ll be the first four division champion from Mexico and the first four division interim champion of Mexico (and I´m not even kidding). Surprised he´s fighting for the real WBO title. Usually he jumps on a (WBC) interim belt to hide behind for a while. I just hope Sulaiman doesn´t retire again over this betrayal.
So here's what I expect to play out: Assuming Papito agrees to a co-promotional deal with Top Rank (as I don't see Arum doing this fight under any other circumstances), the winner of this fight (Vazquez) is kept active, while awaiting the winner of Montiel-Donaire (Donaire) to grow into a 122 lb fighter. Rather than Donaire being matched against the winner of Showtime's tournament, he'll instead be steered towards a showdown with WV2. Arum will drum up nonsense about Donaire wanting to avenge Sonsona's loss for all of the Philippines, even though Donaire's only interest is collecting a scalp like Vazquez. The winner of that, will then be dangled as the carrot at the end of the stick as a "potential" future opponent for the winner of JuanMa-Gamboa, which by the time all of this plays out will still not have been made.
I don't about that... Vazquez might be even easier to find than Arce. Can't recall a single fight of his where he thought to play defense for any longer than a few seconds. What I don't see, though, is Arce doing much damage. Vazquez will get hit, but will disregard most if not all of the incoming.
still he is too young, and too fast. Even if he wants to brawl with Arce he'll get the best of him just with speed. Not bad if it comes on the Pacquiao/Mosley undercard though.
