Black fighters are built differently. They are black whilst others are not.

This stuff is ridiculous. When people say things like this about blacks being burglers or people walking across the street because the probably of a bunch of black people robbing you is greater than a bunch of white they get upset. His formula is to simplistic, just like his mind.

Positive stereotypes are pretty harmless; they don't warrant much scrutiny because the implications aren't great. Italians are good lovers, German's are efficient workers, Asian kids make hard working students.....Black Americans make good boxers.

It's really not the same thing as saying Blacks are stupid or Jews are conspiratorial money horders etc.

 

A stereotype by definition needs to put someone down. "Black fighters are more athletic," is a sleight against other races, it just happens to be a more socially acceptable one. It doesn't make it a smart thing to say.

Not so long ago (maybe a year) there was a researcher who claimed to be on the path to isolating a gene in Pacific Islanders, including the Maori natives of New Zealand, which pre-disposed them towards violent behaviour moreso than other people. In Australia, there is a negative stereotype associated with Islanders, that they are primitive, aggressive, simplistic thugs with a fighting attitude. High amounts of assault-related crime synonymous with them is responsible for the view. His funding was pulled, & he was told he was on the wrong path, & that his research was, "unethical." It was treated like stem cell research. Is that really the right thing to do? Halt progress for political correctness!?

I can see some good coming out of research like that not being finalised & published (lemme knows, every Islander whoever winds up in court on assault charges would pull it straight out of their ass as an excuse for their behaviour), but I don't believe in us all saying, "Here are facts stating African or African-Americans (or anyone) etc. are demonstrably superior in one area," but pretending certain other, demonstrable stereotypes don't exist for reasons rooted in something as backward as political correctness.

I will say I do think Hopkins is only really out for publicity here, not to make a point.

Manny Pacquiao hasn't fought an African American fighter. This IS significant considering such fighters have historically dominated Welterweight and above. Pacquiao has managed to be called P4P#1 (deservedly) without ever facing such an animal. It's worth noting.

Like it or not, black American fighters, as opposed to their Caribbean or African Counterparts, tend to be faster of hand and foot and slicker, than your typical Mexican/Rican or European fighter.

Manny hasn't had to deal with this as yet. Nothing wrong in noting this.

 

What is the perceived genetic distinction between African & African-American which separates them as fighters (given Pacquiao has faced & defeated native Africans)? Is it the mixing with caucasian blood, or something else?

 

Define "historically"...because, "historically", white fighters have also "dominated" those divisions.....:scratcher:

My point is still valid even if you look at track.

But when considering boxing, very few West Indian men have shown the same Athleticism overall.

truthfully this is in all good fun. The fact is that Hopkins is an ignorant man, but you can't deny he has street smarts. So, although he may say some wise things I'd would venture to say to most of what he says is utter rubbish.

The thing is that most races don't like when others try to make themselves seem superior in any way. Even if there is some truth to it. But if we continue down this path and members continue to condone this then basically our society has made no progress and we might as well stop dropping bombs on each other.

Personally I wish everyone would keep their convictions to themselves and strictly talk about boxing and not races and this will be a better place.

I believe Ike coined ASB for this kind of sentiment years ago. It is a stereotype (though a true one) that in general blacks are more athletic. It is also true that Hopkins has been on ROIDS for at least 10 years, even if he isn't getting caught.

Combo of both I guess.
