This should be interesting. Hopefully the CBS part will actually come into play with this, so it's not just Showtime.
Since this fight's gonna be on Showtime, I'm more worried about that loud mouth announcer. If you think Lampley's bad calling a Paquiao fight...
Hopefully, Steve Albert gets the call instead. Gus Johnson is annoying, but I gotta admit..I'll take him any day of the week over the emotionless Bob Papa.
You don't think they'll put any commercials for it on during March Madness, or maybe have a 24/7/360-like show on CBS some time before it?
Papa is emotionless, but that's exactly why I'd take him over Johnson. I don't need emotion from an announcer...what I need is to not get a headache from him.
Pribs (Bethlehem, PA) Hey Dan, any idea to what extent CBS would be involved if Pac-Mosley lands on Showtime PPV Dan Rafael (12:08 PM) My understanding is that CBS' role would be to televise a 24/7-type series leading up to the fight, perhaps on a Saturday or Sunday afternoon or in late night. I would also imagine you would see CBS assets like the CBS Morning Show or David Letterman or whatever, have guests on related to promoting the fight, that sort of thing. Yeah, and Papa puts me to sleep with his monotonous tone and lackadaisical delivery. It could be a FOTY candidate he's commentating, and I still get the impression this dude is sitting ringside reading a magazine, occasionally looking up to make a few bland comments. Papa seems like a guy who would be more at home commentating Tennis or Golf.
CBS doesn't do that for any of the other boxing cards on Showtime..why would they do it for this one? Fight should just be aired on CBS...period....fuck Showtime...
Nice. I imagine there will be some promos run during the NCAA tournament, for both the preview show and the fight.
This shit will be on PPV??? :doh:worst number for a Pacquiao PPV since he was fighting Marquez,Barrera,Morales at 126-135.....less than a million ppv buys..so Mayweather can hang on that..
Well, I wouldn't pay for it on HBO or Showtime. But I also don't have my entire interest in the sport pegged on one, mythical, fight.
I don't imagine that Arum would've taken the fight to Showtime UNLESS they promised pre-fight coverage/promos on CBS. That was his big point of contention when the Super Six (and to a lesser degree, the bantamweight tournament) was made, why they'd invest so heavily and not involve CBS. I still don't care for this fight itself, but if this somehow leads to boxing making its way back to network television, then bravo.
Ha, that's actually pretty clever - "Pribs" is a writer for SecondsOut. Pretty much has the basis for an entire story based on one chat inquiry.
Ill give Bob props for this. He has talked and talked about taking fights away from HBO then, the fights have always ended up there. He's finally grown a sack and done what he said he would do.
